Phang Nga

November to April is the dry season on the Andaman coast and the best time for bay tours, kayaking, and beach visits. December to February offers the most reliable sunshine and calmest seas for boat excursions. The southwest monsoon (May to October) brings heavy rain and can make boat tours rough or occasionally canceled, though the bay remains hauntingly beautiful in misty conditions and tour operators often continue with caution.

Phang Nga has no airport; the nearest airports are Phuket International (HKT, about 90 km south) and Krabi (KBV, about 80 km east). From Phuket, minibuses and buses to Phang Nga depart from Phuket Bus Terminal 2 several times daily (about 1.5 hours, 80 to 120 THB). From Krabi Bus Terminal, buses take about 1.5 hours. Overnight buses from Bangkok's Southern Terminal also reach Phang Nga. Rental car from Phuket is the most flexible option for exploring the province.

Phang Nga town is compact and best navigated on foot or by rented scooter (available from guesthouses at around 200 to 250 THB per day). For bay tours and island excursions, boats depart from Tha Dan Pier, about 8 km from town center. Songthaews provide basic local transport within the town area. A rented motorbike or car is ideal for reaching Thai Muang Beach, Khao Lak, and other provincial attractions independently.

The town center of Phang Nga, along the main commercial road, offers a handful of guesthouses and mid-range hotels at very affordable rates, making it one of the cheapest bases in the region while being perfectly positioned for bay tours. Khao Lak, about 60 km north along the coast, is a more developed resort area with beach access and upmarket hotels. For those arriving via Phuket, using Phuket as a base and doing the bay as a day trip is a common approach, though staying overnight in Phang Nga town allows for a more relaxed, local experience.
