It's a fun and memorable experience. Our tour guide Pam is very accommodating and approachable. A tour with additional learning on how they stitch & dye clothes was a great experience! Having a chance to experience the Vietnamese culture and traditional clothing was the best part of the tour. Also, the rainbow ride and trekking for me was fun. If there's a chance you can ask for a tour guide, consider Pam, she's kind and super friendly!

Everything was perfect, and we could understand and learn more about the city. The tour guide explained everything so well, showing the most important aspects of the city. I am so grateful for the full experience and dinner afterward, as well as for the care and attention provided.

Fantastic 5.0
scenery: Awesome, going through the paddy and corn fields, Village to village. We are lucky some lady is working on her paddy field so I have good shot. difficulty of the hike: Easy hike but the downhill is actually quite steep. Our hiking day is shine bright but not freaking hot. Track is dry, not muddy so it was easy. It surely will be slippery downhill if it's muddy guide: Different guide texted night before and another texted me in the morning. They change our guide but both of them is friendly and easy to communicate. itinerary: We take this so no need to go find lunch after coming back. And food is simple but good. mostly vegetarian, and only chicken. Drinks is separate but the price is cheap and reasonable. The only things I'm a bit annoyed is how persistent the village kids/lady trying to sell things. Try help a bit and 10more coming. Nego until satisfied coz their opening price is scam. I bought from the lady that help me during hike, consider as her tips so it's fine.

We had a lovely morning with Lo Thi Sao our Hmong local guide who was bubbly, lovely and informative. She picked us up at our hotel in town and sent us back at the end. We enjoyed walking through villages and fields with Sao as she shared stories of her life, customs, people. Impressed that she picked up English through interacting with tourists, though it was a shock to discover her so young and already a mother of 3. Lunch was simple but tasty with ice views, and we liked listening to someone who grows her own crops, rears her own animals, weaves her own clothes and even builds her own home. This was a less popular route with tourists, and we could avoid the bigger groups as such. It was foggy, but fine as long as it didn’t rain (just sprays). Sao politely told the local ladies wanting to follow us to stay away as we wouldn’t shop. We sadly saw a puppy being run over by a scooter - more common with roads being built. We enjoyed our private hike with Sao very much.

Fantastic 5.0
We enjoyed our time with May. She customized the walk based on our ability (we took many breaks, I needed them). She made bamboo canes for each of us to helped with the uphill walk. She also explained each of the medicinal properties of the plants she picked along the way. She was caring and attentive. Our walk ended with lunch (reminded me of my mom's cooking) and a herbal foot bath/soaked. Since we are both Mien (aka Red Dao in Vietnam) and it was just us, we conversed mostly in Mien. It was interesting to learn the subtle differences in our language based on our geography (Thai/Lao Mien vs Vietnam Mien). If I were to visit Sapa again, I would do it again. Note: there were women (Red Dao and Hmong) who will try to sell their textiles to you at the end. I know I can get the same thing at the market at a cheaper price, but I didn't have the heart to bargain for a few dollars. I just bought at stated price to support.

What to know before visiting Sapa

Top Attractions in Sapa (Sa Pa)

Fansipan Mountain

Known as the “Roof of Indochina,” Fansipan Peak is the highest mountain in Southeast Asia and a must for adventure seekers. You can hike your way up through breathtaking landscapes or ride the Sun World Fansipan Legend cable car for a thrilling, sky-high view of Sapa, Vietnam.

Cat Cat Village

Step into the charming Cat Cat Village, just a short 15-minute walk from Sapa town. This ethnic Hmong hamlet is perfect for exploring Sapa’s rich traditions, handmade crafts, and daily village life. Watch Hamong women weave textiles, taste local snacks, and admire the breathtaking scenery of waterfalls and rice fields.

Muong Hoa Valley

When you visit Sapa, don’t miss Muong Hoa Valley, one of the most scenic spots in northwest Vietnam. Trek through endless rice terraces, bamboo forests, and ethnic minority villages. The valley floor is dotted with streams, stone carvings, and smiling locals who welcome you with warm hospitality.

Silver Waterfall

Silver Waterfall (Thac Bac Waterfall) is a sparkling gem surrounded by pine forests and misty peaks. The cascading water drops from a height of over 200 meters, creating a refreshing escape for other travelers looking to cool off in Sapa’s temperate climate.

Ham Rong Mountain

For one of the best views in Sapa town, climb Ham Rong Mountain, right behind the Sapa station. The trail winds through colorful gardens and peaceful viewpoints overlooking Sapa Valley and Fansipan Peak. At the summit, the panoramic view of Sa Pa town is simply magical!

Sapa Night Market

At night, you can walk through the vibrant Sapa Night Market, where the aroma of grilled skewers and rice wine fills the air. (Pro Tip: Try fresh Sapa salmon, pick up souvenirs, and chat with friendly locals who bring the market to life.)

Tips before visiting Sapa (Sa Pa)

1. Plan Your Itinerary in Advance

Before you visit Sapa, plan your route and activities to make the most of your time. Include must-see spots like Muong Hoa Valley, Fansipan Peak, and Cat Cat Village to experience Sapa’s natural beauty and local culture.

2. Pack Light but Smart

Since Sapa, Vietnam, is a hill station with unpredictable weather, pack layers, a rain jacket, and comfy trekking shoes for those muddy trails. A light backpack makes it easier to move around bamboo forests, rice terraces, and local homestays.

3. Book a Local Guide

Hiring a local guide is one of the best ways to connect with ethnic minority groups and learn about Sapa’s daily life. Guides from villages like Ta Van or Lao Chai offer authentic insight into traditions, crafts, and the best hidden views.

4. Bring Enough Cash

In Sa Pa town and nearby villages, many shops and stalls don’t accept cards, so cash is key. Withdraw money in Lao Cai province or Hanoi before you reach Sapa to avoid extra fees. You’ll need it for meals, souvenirs at the Sapa market, and tasty treats like Sapa salmon and rice wine.

5. Stay in a Local Homestay

For true cultural immersion, stay with a local family in Ta Phin village or Ta Van village. You’ll enjoy warm hospitality, home-cooked meals, and maybe even help make traditional dishes. It’s the perfect way to experience Sapa’s natural beauty and traditions up close!
