November to February is ideal, when salt production is most active, temperatures are comfortably cool, the skies are clear, and the mountain scenery is at its most beautiful. Strawberries can be picked from December to February at local farms. The chomphu phu kha trees in Doi Phu Kha National Park typically bloom between January and March. Rainy season (June to October) makes mountain roads challenging and some areas inaccessible.

Bo Klue is approximately 80 to 100 km northeast of Nan city. The most practical way is by private car or rented motorbike from Nan, following Highway 1080 through Pua District and then into Bo Klue. The scenic mountain drive takes 2 to 2.5 hours and passes through Doi Phu Kha National Park. Public songthaews from Nan city to Bo Klue exist but run infrequently. No flights serve Bo Klue; the nearest airport is Nan Nakhon Airport with daily flights from Bangkok.

Once in Bo Klue, the village and salt wells are easily explored on foot, as they are within 500 meters of each other. To visit Doi Phu Kha National Park viewpoints, Sapan Village, and surrounding farms, a motorbike or private car is necessary. Local guides and homestay hosts can arrange transport and guided excursions within the district. Signal can be limited in remote areas, so download offline maps before traveling.

Bo Klue's accommodation scene is intimate and largely composed of guesthouses and homestays that immerse guests in the mountain village lifestyle. Local homestays near the salt wells provide the most authentic cultural experience and are often operated by salt-making families who can demonstrate the traditional process during your stay.
