Kagoshima

Generally expensive, but worth the price. The service and staff friendliness are commendable, and a definite pros is that you don't need to go to a separate observatory to see Sakurajima, you can see it perfectly well from the hotel's own observatory or the hot springs. The downside is that if you get assigned a room far from the hot springs, it takes quite a while to get there. Also, the hotel is too far from the city center, so even if you take the hotel shuttle, it can restreict your schedule or plans. Still, the hot springs alone make it worth visiting.

The location is excellent as it's in the Amu Plaza building at Kagoshima-Chuo Station. The room was also very clean. It was a very satisfying stay. It was also convenient that the airport bus stop was across from the station.

Really satisfying with this hotel, with such a spacious room. super clean and got a full kitchen utensils. Can see sakurajima from the room. will definitely Consider to here again if come back to Kagoshima. However, one minor issue was that we could not find staff that easy if you have any problem to discuss with them.

The only issue was that the spa was under maintenance for all four days of our stay. Public transportation might be a bit of a distance from Kagoshima-Chuo, but this actually turned out to be an advantage, as the view from the window made us want to stay at the hotel all day.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel. Breakfast is served on the top floor with a view of the volcano, weather permitting. The breakfast is good, but could be better. Local dishes are offered. Unfortunately, we only noticed the daily breakfast special when we were leaving on the second day. Staff could point this out, as it's not immediately visible with the other dishes. The rooms are good, but could be cleaner.

Originally, we chose a guesthouse because we didn't want things to be too complicated, but we encountered a problem on this platform for the first time. We traveled for an hour and a half from Fukuoka to Kagoshima, and spent a total of two hours contacting the guesthouse through the platform about the check-in email, which ruined the atmosphere. Fortunately, this guesthouse is relatively new, and the cleanliness inside is good. The location of the guesthouse is very convenient for us who rely solely on public transportation. We would still consider it in the future if we have the opportunity.

Conveniently located within walking distance of the Kagoshima City Aquarium, this hotel offers a relaxing experience with its 14th-floor natural hot spring and complimentary late-night ramen. Guests consistently praise the breakfast, which features local specialties like Kurobuta pork shabu-shabu and chicken rice, making it an excellent base for exploring Kagoshima.

Klook offers the best prices. If you want to experience the charm of the Northern Kyushu region, I recommend taking the JR. I bought a three-day JR pass and visited Kokura, Mojiko, and Kumamoto. I highly recommend Kokura Castle; although it's a reconstructed castle, it offers many interactive activities for visitors. You can also try on kimonos for free and take photos, or experience horseback archery—it's definitely worth a visit. If you get off at Kokura, you must try the chicken udon noodles at the standing noodle shop on the Kitakyushu Station platform, which has a long history; it's very affordable and delicious! Mojiko is a beautiful harbor with a European flair, perfect for exploring various historic buildings and taking photos. Curry is a famous local dish there. Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan's three great castles, has several centuries of history and is a reconstructed castle with significant historical value. The castle's main color is black, and its appearance resembles a samurai, giving it a majestic presence. I suggest taking the tram to Kumamoto Castle to experience the local culture and daily life.

love the convenience with JR pass as it connects all the places of interest via Shinkansen.
