Fantastic 5.0
I'm satisfied with the service, but one minor disappointment is that purchasing tickets on-site is much cheaper. Usually, there's an assumption that advance booking is more affordable, so the significant price difference is a bit of a letdown—it's about 1.5 times more expensive.

Fantastic 5.0
Our tour guide, Leo, was incredibly attentive, responsible, and polite. The schedule was perfectly arranged. I especially want to mention that when we couldn't get a Lucky Pierrot burger at the main store, he immediately called other branches to ensure we got to try Hakodate's specialty. The burger was truly delicious, and we're very grateful to Leo! We hope to have him guide us around Hakodate again next time. This tour is highly recommended for anyone exploring Hokkaido without a car!!!

Fantastic 5.0
After completing the order, I realized the voucher stated that a printed copy was required for redemption. However, upon arrival, I was able to show the voucher on my phone to the ticket agent at the ticket booth. They wrote down the number from my phone, and I was able to redeem the tickets. When redeeming the tickets, you still need to wait in line with those purchasing tickets. Even though it was cherry blossom season, we entered two hours before closing, so there were noticeably fewer people, and we didn't have to wait. It's definitely worth going up to see during cherry blossom season; it's absolutely beautiful.

What to know before visiting Hakodate

Top experiences and seasonal rhythm

Hakodate is best known for its observation decks and scenic viewpoints, followed by a lively mix of guided tours; cultural experiences are available but far less booked. Demand peaks in April, making spring the busiest time for these activities, while February and the late summer months see noticeably lower interest.

Tailored picks for families, couples and solo travellers

Families will find observation decks easy and reliable — low-cost, kid-friendly and a great way to introduce children to Hakodate’s views. Couples should consider the range of tours, which cover everything from city highlights to specialised local routes and suit a romantic or leisurely pace. Solo travellers and small groups can mix observation decks for quick, budget-friendly stops with one of the many tours for deeper local insight.

What travellers from Australia should book ahead

Most visitors from Australia travel with a flexible itinerary, and many Hakodate activities can be secured a day or two before you go; however, the earliest planners typically reserve around three weeks ahead. Booking in advance matters most for travel in April, when demand is highest and availability tightens.

Comparing categories: price and who they suit

Observation decks are the easiest and cheapest way into Hakodate’s activities, offering consistent low prices and broad appeal for families and budget travellers. Tours cover the widest range of options and price points, from entry-level to premium, so they suit travellers after anything from a casual introduction to a deeper, tailored experience. Cultural experiences appear far less commonly booked here but will attract visitors specifically seeking immersive local activities.
