What to expect
**Due to the recent warm weather, there is no snow in Miyama, and the next week will be mainly sunny, so the possibility of snow accumulation is extremely low. Miyama officials have notified that the snow lantern experience in the original lighting event will be cancelled, and guests will be given a bottle of Miyama milk (200ml) or Miyama milk coffee (200ml) instead. **

- Arashiyama Arashiyama is a popular attraction in Kyoto, suitable for visiting all year round, but it is particularly attractive in winter. You can start from Togetsukyo Bridge and enjoy the snow scenery that looks like an ink painting. Especially when covered with snow, Mt. Atago and the surrounding mountains are more peaceful and beautiful. Go to the bamboo forest trail in Arashiyama, listen to the natural sound of the wind blowing the bamboo leaves, and feel a special Zen feeling. This is also the filming location of the movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. When passing by Nonomiya Shrine, you may want to touch the “turtle stone”, which is said to help the wisher to achieve his wish within a year. While strolling leisurely, you can visit the surrounding ancient temples and gardens to experience the unique historical and cultural atmosphere of Arashiyama.
- Miyama Thatched Village (winter limited lighting event, there will be special winter fireworks on January 29!) Miyama Thatched Village is one of the three major thatched house communities in Japan. The snowy scenery in winter seems to make people travel through time. The thatched houses in the village are covered with thatch on all sides, creating a sense of simplicity and isolation. Every year from January 25th to February 1st, the village holds a snow lantern event, where the snow lanterns and flower lanterns lit up at night give the whole village a romantic atmosphere. You can participate in the snow lantern making experience and enjoy drinks and desserts made with Miyama milk in a traditional gallery-style cafe. If you are lucky, you can also enjoy the fireworks show that lights up the winter night, which is a perfect end to your journey.
- Return to Kyoto/Osaka (Shinsaibashi area)

Reviews
The weather was not cold enough, it did not snow, and the light-up event was not held. It was a pity, but it was a small compensation that there was still an event to pray for peace and blessings.
Soba noodles, eggs and pudding are delicious! Overall it was pretty good, it's a small village, but it was a pity that there was no snow, so the Meishan handmade snow lanterns were cancelled.
saw it on Klook which exclusively during winter period only and decided to join during my trip in Japan. Went to these places as mentioned, worth visiting. but sadly, the Lantern Festival was cancelled by the official organisers but Miyama village is worth visit!
It's a pity that we didn't encounter snow during our visit to Miyama Gassho Village. It even rained, so we spent too much time in Gassho Village. If we didn't play in the snow, we would have shortened the trip and let everyone go home earlier.
The guide messaged the day before with all the meetup details and location which was good. the tour was a bit rushed and Gogoday could have better coordination as there were 3 groups doing the same itinerary and all 3 different buses had to stop at Kyoto to pick up passengers. they could have consolidated into 1 bus for pickup from Kyoto and the rest leave from Osaka. Save some time for the journey there and back. the snow village was the highlight of the tour
I have been to Arashiyama many times, so I didn’t go to the bamboo forest. I just walked around and ate on the street. We went to Miyama and took a closer look at the Gassho Village, and then it started snowing. Big or small, just be happy!
I was looking forward to going to Gassho Village to see the snow, but the weather was abnormal those days and the snow melted, which was a pity. Although there were uncontrollable factors, the whole trip ended successfully. The Togetsukyo Bridge and the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest Trail are very beautiful. There was no snow in Miyama Gassho Village, but watching the lights at night was also unique. The tour leader was very nice and helped take photos. He was very gentle and the whole itinerary was very flexible.
Casper was a friendly and helpful tour guide. She sent us links and recommendations in our group chat to help us navigate the free time. The bamboo forest was shorter than we expected. The village was scenic, but with three hours to spend before the fireworks, we didn’t have much to do. Overall, we enjoyed the day.
The overall experience was great, but we met many mainland tourists in the same car. They coughed and didn't wear masks the whole way, and the children were not properly disciplined. They were noisy throughout the car and then sat in random places.
Miyama is really beautiful. Although there was no snow when I went there, I couldn't experience the snow corridor lights, but the limited fireworks on that day were very beautiful.
