Maximized this! 1st day of use : Bus from Tenjin to Beppu(¥3,250); local bus ride worth ¥170 per ride around Beppu . Day 2: Roundtrip bus from Beppu to Yufuin ¥1,880; local bus ride around Beppu; Day 3: Bus from Beppu to Tenjin (¥3,250); local bus ride in Tenjin and Hakata (¥150/ride); RT bus from Tenjin to Tosu Outlet ( ¥1,540). To note: To activate on the day of 1st day of use and should be in front of the ticketing staff so they can print the ticket(bus ride from Tenjin to Beppu). Same with days 2 and 3 activate the day use in front of the ticket staff or bus driver, they check the date: Local rides in Beppu, Yufuin, Tenjin and Hakata no need for reservation just get a small ticket upon entering the bus. Bus rides for Rountrip Beppu- Tenjin and Tenjin to Tosu premium outlets needs reservation ( you can do it online or bus terminal ticket office)
All buses are free. I went to Itoshima, Shimonoseki Karato Market, and Kumamoto, and no reservations were needed, which was very convenient. If you're staying in Hakata, just go to the bus terminal.
I bought a Northern Kyushu SunQ Pass for two days this time and visited Huis Ten Bosch and Yufuin. It's very convenient for traveling by bus. I purchased an electronic ticket, so the two days can be used separately. I thought I could pick up reserved seat tickets at Fukuoka International Airport, but I was told that I could only exchange for reserved seat tickets on the 3rd floor of the Hakata Bus Terminal (service hours 07:00-21:00)! You can board the bus by showing the driver the electronic 3Q Pass e-ticket and the reserved seat ticket! It takes about two hours from Hakata to Huis Ten Bosch and about two hours to Yufuin!
The Kyushu SunQ Pass is super convenient. From Fukuoka Airport to Yufuin and Beppu right after landing, you can explore everywhere by bus. It's very practical, and I'd definitely use it again next time.
after purchasing the sunq pass, book your highway bus if you are looking to take it to go to areas like Yufuin and Beppu. you can exchange for physical ticket with your online booking confirmation once you arrive at fukuoka airport
I bought a 3-day bus pass this time, from Hakata - Kumamoto - Aso - Kumamoto - Tenjin. All city buses are included, so there's no need to pay extra fare! The only trouble is that you have to open the e-ticket and show it to the driver when you get off the bus, which takes a lot of time.
really worth the money as it can be used on highway buses too and if you travel mostly by coaches or even local buses within Kyushu and Fukuoka respectively. Lesser known than JR pass but this is more affordable! Just activate the pass on the day of use and show it to the driver when you alight.
Coverage area: Complete as planned. You can conveniently book your car rental in advance and then activate it on the day of use.
These tickets are valid for long-distance buses between Fukuoka and Nagasaki, as well as city buses in Fukuoka/Nagasaki, offering a convenient and affordable option. The only drawback is that you need to open a link to access a QR code, and if you don't open it from your device, you'll need email verification. Therefore, it might be better for companions to purchase tickets separately to avoid the possibility of sitting apart. A small tip: online seat reservations are often required for long-distance buses and are usually free.
Each time, I have to press a link for the driver to check, so it must be done with internet access. This trip was from Hakata to Kumamoto, and the second day from Kumamoto to Mount Aso, then returning to Kumamoto!
