What To Expect

Travel to one of the most scenic regions in Japan, Aso is home to a natural volcanic landscape with the most active volcano in the country, Naka Dake, at its center. The volcano is now at an active phrase so visitors are not able to take the ropeway to the crater mouth, but all is not lost as you will be able to get as close as a few hundred meters away from the steaming crater. Stunning mountain views can be seen from the famous viewpoint of Aso and Daikanbo. Also, visit the famed Shrikawa Source where the mineral water is said to be healing and relaxing – don't forget an empty bottle to bring some home with you!

Friendly and knowledgeable guide. Although it was a waste that the ropeway was closed and we can't go to the crater due to the previous earthquake.

Helen is a very friendly tour guide and is familiar with Aso area. She is able to give a thorough introduction of Aso area and take us back to the station on time despite the unexpected traffic jam and heavy snow. Still, it's a pity that we could not reach the mountain top due to heavy snow.

Helen, a British lady who lives in Japan for more than a decade, is particularly fun and vivid when she talks about the Shinto story from an outsider's point of view. Although we are having a heavy snowfall at the top of the mountain during our trip, it is still great.

The guided tour is very good, along with dialogue and explanation, will not let the scene cold, driving technology is also ok.
