About the Organiser/Instructor
Thomas Bertson is a photographer and educator. Much of his work is directed toward social and ethical issues. He began his work in 2008 on shooting an extensive range of subjects including still life and portraiture. Subsequently he focused on documentary projects when he covered the Arab Spring (2011), wherein hundreds of pictures were published, and Prison Escape (2012). A collection of his photographs can be seen at Vogue.com. In December 2020 he published his first book “Hong Kong: Photographic Journey in Search of Peace.”

【Workshop introduction|Find Your Direction】
Photography is your diary, your voice to the world. The way we engage with this world constantly creates our perception where thoughts and emotions are built, evolved and eventually settled to form our artistic vision. Ask yourself a couple of questions, what kind of photographer you are? and what kind of photographer do you want to be? Through this practical experience I gladly aim to help out photography enthusiasts; to identify their artistic identity, to have a constructive opinion on their work, and to create a cohesive body of work.
The workshop comprises three hours of theory and practice. It starts with a discussion about the principles of photography in addition to detailed overview that includes the basic aesthetics of photography like the composition, framing and lighting. The second part is a photo-walk in which putting everything into practice. The structure of the workshop covers both aspects of the creative process in photography of the form and content. It is suitable for photographers who want to improve their vision and find their path with their own characteristic style.

- This workshop is for photography enthusiasts regardless their level of experience.
- Bring your favourite gear. A camera with manual settings is preferred.
- We do a lot of walking so it is recommended to wear a comfortable pair of shoes.
