Initially, the Wulai Scenic Train was only used for timber transportation. Due to the demand from tourists visiting Wulai Waterfall, passenger service officially began in 1963, with passengers pushed manually. To accommodate the growing number of visitors, it was mechanized in 1974, using diesel engines to power the train. In 1987, after overcoming many difficulties, a tunnel was excavated at the Waterfall Station to replace the original turntable, and it has been in use ever since. The operating route extends approximately 1.6 kilometers from Wulai Station to Waterfall Station, running back and forth daily from 8 AM to 5 PM. Operating hours are adjusted during the summer peak season, with trains departing as soon as passengers arrive to serve them. When visiting Wulai Old Street, the scenic train is a must-visit attraction popular with both adults and children.
Schedule
The Wulai Scenic Train does not have a fixed timetable; departures are flexible depending on the crowd. Operating hours: Summer (July-August): 09:00-18:00; Other periods: 09:00-17:00.
