Alpen Takayama Matsumoto Pass Review – My Honest Opinion I used this pass during my recent trip to Japan, which included the itinerary: Nagoya → Matsumoto → Alpine Route → Toyama → Takayama → Nagoya. 1. **Fast Delivery of Exchange Voucher:** It was great to receive the pass exchange voucher within two days of ordering. 2. **Easy Exchange for Physical Ticket at Nagoya Station JR Counter:** The process of exchanging the pass at the counter and immediately reserving seats made train travel much more convenient during the trip. 3. **High Utility for Multi-Region Travel:** Since my plan was to travel through Matsumoto, the Alpine Route, Toyama, and Takayama, it was very convenient not to have to arrange separate transportation for each segment. 4. **Beautiful Scenery from the Train:** The views from the train were truly wonderful. There were many sections where I traveled through mountains and natural landscapes, making the journey itself feel like part of the trip. 5. **Excellent Customer Service:** When an unexpected situation arose during my trip, Klook's customer service responded in real-time, allowing me to resolve the issue without much difficulty. 6. **Planning to Use Again:** I was very satisfied with this trip and plan to use Klook again when I visit next time. This is an honest review based on my own purchase and experience.
If you're planning a trip from Nagoya to Takayama, Toyama, and the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route within five days, I highly recommend purchasing this pass! A round trip on the Hida Limited Express from Nagoya to Takayama alone costs around NT$2400, and the Tateyama Kurobe Option Ticket is about the same. With this pass, I was able to take the comfortable Hida Limited Express from Nagoya to Takayama, stay there for three nights, then travel to Toyama for one night. I also used the pass for a free ride on the train to Tateyama Station, where I exchanged the pass for a round-trip ticket to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, also free of charge. Finally, I took a complimentary JR train from Shinano-Omachi back to Nagoya. It's convenient and highly recommended! Seat Reservation Process: The pass includes four free seat reservations, which you can make by selecting your preferred times at the automatic ticket machines in the station.
I received the tickets 4 days after ordering. Upon arrival at Nagoya Airport, I exchanged them for physical tickets at the JTB counter (exchanged on May 9th, designated for use starting May 10th). After reaching Nagoya Station, I immediately reserved my seats for the designated train at the machine. The entire trip went smoothly, and I encountered no issues. Due to cracks in the bridge piers, the Toyama-Takayama section required taking a local train, shuttle bus, and then another local train, which took some time for transfers (limited services, and no reserved seats were used; the first leg didn't guarantee a seat, but the second leg did). It's a shame I only had 5 days; if I had an extra 1-2 days, the itinerary could have been more relaxed.
We think it’s a bargain! We went up to Tateyama Kurobe three times in a row, the first day Toyama ~ Toyama down (stay Toyama hotel) take the earliest Toyama Station train 05:50. The cable car at Tateyama Station is [of the same day]. By the next day, if you are on Toyama again, and go to Tateyama Station Customer Service Center to book (the day) cable car time ticket, of course, already holding your pass and the ticket from Tateyama to Ogizawa the day before, to do the next part. My husband was very happy, we witnessed the cloudy day-rainy day-sunny day in Tateyama Kurobe - we stayed one night (two days and one night) in Murodo, watching the evening galaxies, watching the sunrise, sunset. Saw a pair of thunderbirds. PS: The snow wall in the room hall does not open until 9:30 every day. But the display stand in the direction of the Tateyama Hotel exit - was open before 9:30. Because we were in a flash. We could not use its Shinkansen ticket, we arrived at Nagoya Airport, after going to Nagoya Station to redeem the pass, we self-paid night bus directly from Nagoya to Toyama. Take the Shinkansen directly from Matsumoto to Tokyo at your own expense. The pass is very rich, and you can go from Nagoya to Takayama, then to Toyama, then down to Matsumoto and back to Nagoya. However high mountains. We’ve been there before, so we used our pass this time to wander directly to Tateyama Kurobe and have fun (haha).
this is absolutely a great pass if you planned your itenerary wisely. unfortunately I had one minor.mistake. I did not.kmow that you could not exchange the JR Pass at Toyama Station. you can onlyndo.it in Takayama.Station, Nagoya Station and probably at Shinano Station (not sure about that. the best starting pint to exchange the JR Pass is probably at Nagoya Station. But any the Tateyama Kube Alpine Route pass (which is included in this pass) needs to be acquired from.either De test Toyama Station or.from Shinano Station. I got mine at Dentetsu Toyama Station.
This trip, we intended to use the pass to visit the Kurobe Alpine Snow Wall, which is very convenient to use. Just show the pass to exchange for an Alpine Route ticket at Ogizawa Station. And to take the bus from Shinano Omachi to Ogizawa, just show the pass. As for exchanging for JR train tickets, it is convenient like other passes.
easy to use. the vouchers was delivered to my house before my trip. when I arrive in Japan, just activate it at JR ticket office. you can also book and reserve your tickets at the office. we started from Nagoya- Takayama- Toyama - Matsumoto and back to Nagoya. If you enjoy scenic train journey, this is definitely a good choice!
It's great that tickets can be exchanged at Nagoya Airport, saving a lot of time. You can then take the physical ticket to a JR self-service machine to redeem reserved seat tickets. Only four reserved seat tickets can be exchanged. For Tateyama Kurobe, you can exchange your Tateyama cable car tickets on the same day at Kintetsu Toyama Station. All tickets for ascending and descending the mountain are included.
The JR Alpine–Takayama–Matsumoto Area Tourist Pass was one of the best investments for our Japan trip. It offered excellent value for money and made traveling around Central Japan extremely convenient and hassle-free. We used the pass to visit beautiful destinations such as Takayama, Toyama, and the spectacular Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. The transportation system was efficient, punctual, and easy to navigate. The highlight of our trip was definitely the Snow Wall (Yuki-no-Otani) at Murodo — truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The pass covered multiple modes of transport, including trains, buses, cable cars, and ropeways along the Alpine Route, allowing us to enjoy breathtaking mountain scenery without worrying about buying separate tickets. If you're planning to explore the Japanese Alps, Shirakawa-go, Takayama, or the Alpine Route, this pass is highly recommended. It saved us both time and money while making our family trip smooth and memorable.
This is a great and practical ticket. It allows for 4 free reserved seat bookings and includes the entire Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. However, this ticket cannot be exchanged at JR ticket machines; it must be exchanged at a ticket counter. My flight delay almost made me miss the exchange window.
