What To Expect

Set in the true Aussie bush, the Healseville Sanctuary is home to several of Australia's iconic animals, from koalas to platypus and wombats. Everyday there's a talk made by one of the zoo keepers sharing their experiences about a species of animal and their conservation efforts. Get up close and watch parrots, owls and predatory birds soar above you at the Spirits of the Sky show and discover the unique and colourful Australian bird life. Make sure you take the time to walk through the treetop platforms and boardwalk to get a good view of the koalas set among their native gum tree habitat. The Healesville Sanctuary is a zoo-based conservation organisation, so its not only a place to visit cute native animals, but a chance to learn about the conservation efforts promoted by the zoo in sustaining these species for the future.

Actually it is not much of animal. Spending only around 1 and half hour.

Good experience, quite lucky that the koala was awake. However paid extra for the close up session, disappointed that some ppl (YouTube) can touch them yet we just stand near only and they were still up the tree. Waste of money for that

So far from city, but not actually that fun. Better just go to Melbourne zoo. The place is not that big. But, it's fun to visit the pet hospital to see the nurses perform operation to birds

Wonderful Sanctuary with animals, better than Werribee And Melbourne Zoo.

Had Healesville Sanctuary been the only animal sanctuary I visited in Melbourne and Surroudns, it would have been a well built and modern facility that doesn't disappoint. However, as I had visited a day prior Philip Island Wildlife Park (PIWP), I had a chance to do an immediate comparison between the 2 and favored PIWP a lot more. Firstly, PIWP's tickets were only A$19 compared to Healesville's AU$37. PIWP also provided a bag of feed that I could feed to Wombats, Geese, Swans, Wallabies, Kangaroos and emus, of which the latter 5 are free-to-roam anywhere in the park. Healesville on the other hand had all their animals enclosed behind an enclosure, providing zero interactivity between animals and visitors. If you'd like to have some close-up encounters with some of Australia's native species, I'd skip Healesville Sanctuary all together.

cute and shy Kangaroos and Wombat, and all koala are sleeping

nice place. healesville is primarily focused on australian native animals, thus they might not have a wide variety of animals as compared to the zoo.
