What to expect

This itinerary will take you to explore the four most essential attractions in Yamaguchi Prefecture, from spectacular coastal views to underground wonders, opening a deep encounter with nature and culture.

  • Stop 1: Mekari PA This is an excellent viewing spot at the border of Kyushu and Yamaguchi, offering a panoramic view of the magnificent Kanmon Strait. In the early morning, the sea surface reflected by the morning glow is like a layer of golden satin. Don’t forget to select local specialty souvenirs in the special product area!
  • Stop 2: Akiyoshido Cave Stroll through Japan’s largest limestone cave (constant temperature 17°C), and marvel at the stalagmite forest and limestone terraces formed over millions of years. The magical lighting and geological wonders in the cave combine to create a wonderland as if you have traveled to another world!
  • Stop 3: Motonosumi Shrine 123 vermilion torii gates form a sea approach, certified by CNN as one of “The 31 most beautiful sceneries in Japan.” Challenge the 6-meter-high “most difficult donation box in Japan”—receive a special blessing from the priest if you hit the target! Winter limited “Ryugu’s Blowhole”: Giant waves hit the rock walls to form a 30-meter rainbow water mist (exclusive spectacle from December to February)
  • Stop 4: Tsunoshima Bridge - Drama Filming Location Drive across the 1780-meter pure white sea-crossing bridge, the emerald green sea water on both sides connects with the sky into an infinite blue, Japan’s favorite filming location for car commercials. Classic dramas such as “HERO” have been filmed here!

Review for: Harness Temple Observatory & Akiyoshido Cave & Motonosumi Shrine & Tsunoshima Bridge Day Tour

The theme of this trip to Japan was a self-guided tour of the San'in and San'yo regions. We had already visited famous and lesser-known attractions in the four prefectures of Okayama, Tottori, Shimane, and Hiroshima in the previous days. Since the attractions in Yamaguchi Prefecture are quite spread out, we stumbled upon a Klook tour, which perfectly satisfied our desire to explore Yamaguchi Prefecture. This was also the last stop on our trip to Japan. The trip was great! Although the journey was long, and it was a little disappointing that we couldn't visit Motonosumi Shrine (the shrine was closed), our tour guide Emy was excellent – very thoughtful, enthusiastic, and funny. Five-star rating!

Review for: Harness Temple Observatory & Akiyoshido Cave & Motonosumi Shrine & Tsunoshima Bridge Day Tour

Roger was our guide and he was very good and was happy to take photos of us. He was very courteous and caring and looked after us well re routing the tour due to bridge closure times and the closure of Motonosumi Shrine. It was very disappointing that the Motonosumi Shrine was closed but Roger took us to the Fukutoku Inari Shrine instead. The ride over the Tsunoshima Ohashi bridge was quick due to a scheduled closure for a marathon but it was beautiful despite the drizzly weather conditions. The highlight of the tour was the Akiyoshido Cave and it was well worth a visit. Here we were able to spend some time wandering through the cave marvelling at the incredible and spectacular formations and taking photos. Afterwards we enjoyed lunch and again Roger was very informative and helped with making menu choices. It was a long day travelling on a smaller bus but worth it.

Review for: Harness Temple Observatory & Akiyoshido Cave & Motonosumi Shrine & Tsunoshima Bridge Day Tour

This was a small group tour, but our guide, Kaku-san, enthusiastically explained the attractions to us in different languages. The sights were very beautiful and worth seeing in one's lifetime, but they were a bit far. However, the guide arranged the round trip itinerary very well, with rest stops between points, so we didn't spend too long on the bus. We didn't have to worry at all about things like eating or going to the restroom.

Our tour guide, Little Xu, was very friendly, and the Akiyoshido Cave tour was very interesting. He also proactively helped us take photos. We had a very pleasant day. Akiyoshido Cave, Motonosumi Shrine, and Tsunoshima Bridge are all very worth visiting. I'm very excited that Klook offers this tour, allowing people who can't drive to visit these places.

The weather wasn't great, it was raining, but it was still worth the visit! We had enough time, though the drive was a bit long, and there was some traffic on the way back. P.S. If an entrance fee is required, why isn't it included in the tour price?

Review for: Harness Temple Observatory & Akiyoshido Cave & Motonosumi Shrine & Tsunoshima Bridge Day Tour

Our tour guide for the day was Roger. Thank you, Roger, for giving us plenty of time to stroll and enjoy Akiyoshido Cave. Although the whole day involved long drives, it was great that we were able to get off the bus, stretch our legs, and use the restroom at rest stops approximately every 1.5-2 hours!

Join a tour to two stunning spots that are difficult for regular tourists to reach on their own. Akiyoshido Cave and Motonosumi Shrine are both well worth a visit, offering a unique cave experience and breathtaking ocean views all in one! The tour guide, Ms. Duan (ELLA), provided detailed introductions to the itinerary and photo spots, took care of the group members' needs, and is highly recommended!
