Reviews

An employee was supposed to contact me and give me the tickets, but yeah right, that never happened, lol. Since I didn't hear from them, I figured I could just use the QR code, but even the staff didn't know. They couldn't confirm it, and since it was already starting, they told me to go in first and then come out after it was over to check again. Also, this isn't something foreigners would enjoy. The content itself is only suitable for Chinese people overflowing with national pride.

Guide

  • "Panoramic Ocean Visuals": The performance uses a 270-degree panoramic visual wrap, primarily with a front gauze screen and a horseshoe-shaped silver screen, ground projection simulating ocean waves, and ear screens for assistance, combined with dynamic seating, to create an immersive sailing visual experience as if one were in the vast ocean, riding the wind and waves.
  • "Shocking Sound Effects Surround": The maritime theater is the first to adopt Trusound panoramic sound technology, precisely positioning sound images. Sounds such as sea storms and giant kun swimming fully envelop the audience, making them "feel as if they are there" and maximizing immersion.
  • "Integration of Diverse Arts": The play integrates various art forms such as drama, musical, and stage play. When presenting the sailing story, it centers on the musical, borrowing the plot progression and performance tension of drama to immerse the audience.
  • "Novel Mechanical Devices": Multi-degree-of-freedom dynamic seats accurately simulate the bumps of sailing, paired with flexible axis-shifting car platforms that carry realistic large ships moving between the stage and backstage, jointly creating a stunning stage ocean landscape and bringing a novel experience.
  • "Deep Cultural Exploration": Deeply explores cultural connotations. The creative team traveled to cultural heritage sites such as Sanlihe and Langya Terrace, sifting through clues from historical records and expert research. Based on Qingdao's marine culture and China's maritime history, it connects the 5,000-year history of Chinese people's ocean exploration through the stories of three characters from different eras.

China's First Large-scale Immersive Maritime Epic Musical "Dream of the Vast Ocean" Grandly Premieres

  • "Dream of the Vast Ocean" is produced by Qingdao Tourism Group, with CCTV's renowned director Jin Tiemu serving as the chief director.
  • The play closely adheres to the core theme of "sailing," telling three cross-temporal sailing stories. Bei, a prehistoric youth, represents the primitive tribe's instinctive yearning for the sea; Xu Fu, a Qin Dynasty navigator, embodies the maritime sentiment of an emperor through the ages; and Qi Kunpeng, a professional sailboat racer, symbolizes the life ideals of contemporary youth. These three dream-chasers from different eras connect China's 5,000-year maritime history, recreating the magnificent epic of humanity's continuous exploration of the ocean and brave embrace of it.
  • This wonderful performance, combining virtual and real elements, takes Qingdao's marine culture and China's maritime history as its main thread, innovatively integrating "sailing" into visuals, atmosphere, and viewing methods. Leveraging the excellent hardware of the "Maritime Theater," it integrates landscape, culture, and tourism, using wrapped panoramic images to create a full-view ocean scene, paired with dynamic seating to provide an ultimate immersive sailing experience, vividly showcasing Qingdao's active and striving story of chasing maritime dreams, and reinterpreting the unique charm of China's five-thousand-year maritime epic.
