- By train: Take the express train from Tobu Railway Asakusa Station to Tobu Nikko Station (approximately 2 hours)
- By bus: From Tobu Nikko Station, take the Tobu Bus World Heritage Tour Route to the Omotesando bus stop (approximately 15 minutes). Get off and walk for 10 minutes

It is one of the most beautiful temples in all of Japan, and in this season with clear days the foliage is fantastic, the colors are wonderful. As the Japanese proverb says: "Don't say wonder until you've seen Nikko." I advise you to buy the ticket in advance to avoid any queues.

First, I had to get the tickets at Nikko Station, which went very smoothly. After they verified my information, they immediately issued the tickets. It's about a 10-minute drive from Nikko Station to Toshogu Shrine. The shrine is resplendent and makes you marvel at the architecture of yesteryear.

It's worth buying this ticket to exchange it at the station's service counter first, as it saves a lot of time by avoiding queues at the site. The treasure museum's collection is decent but can be explored quickly. Toshogu Shrine is very crowded and requires more time to visit. Audio guides are available for purchase at the entrance, three for 1000 yen, which I found to be reasonably priced.

Amazing! Learning and seeing the shrine and it's history made me have a better appreciation for Japan, it's culture and people. Even though it's a 2 hour train ride, worth the visit because of this.

Remember to exchange your tickets at Tobu Nikko Station first. The ticket office at Toshogu Shrine can get very crowded, so this will save you a lot of time. The Yomeimon Gate is a national treasure of Japan, and you shouldn't miss the Sleeping Cat, the Three Wise Monkeys, and the Carved Elephants.
