The Nikko Pass is very useful in Nikko. You get to save a lot of money since the bus fares are really expensive going up the mountain. It’s just a little saddening that we weren’t able to ride yhe Akechidaira Ropeway because of the really strong winds and snowfall.

Recommend to go early to book train tickets and spend the whole day there. Went during autumn and is a lovely sight

Nikko is an amazing place! Would love to go back in the autumn or spring. Suggest to get your pass a day before your trip from the Tobu Asakusa office so that you’ll know the train schedules and plot your trip. We took the 6:44AM train since we don’t want a lot of transfers. This pass also covers the Ropeway (must do!) and sightseeing cruise and all buses in the area. This is a treat for Initial D fans since you will be passing the Irohazaka Tougue (mountain pass)

Firstly, the 2 day heritage pass we got can be easily bought at Asakusa Tourist Information Centre (where the pass is to be collected anyway) at 2,000 Yen, which can be cheaper than what Klook sells it for depending on conversion rate. Secondly, buying on the spot gives more flexibility in terms of travel date, as compared to Klook where you have to travel on the selected date. Regarding the pass itself, it is not worth it as it entitles you to an almost 3 hour ride to Nikko with 4 platform changes. If you want to reach Nikko faster, you have to top up another 1000+ yen for a limited express train. In Nikko itself, unless you stay over and explore by bus/train for 2 days, the pass is not worth it since each bus ride is about 200 yen only. If you plan to go Nikko for a day trip like we did, you might be better off without the pass.

Pick up the pass at Tobu Tourists Center Asakusa. The queue was quite long, so pls spare some time. You can top up some money to book Spacia train, which is a lot more convenient.
  • Shuk Chong 8 Jan 2019
The pick-up point was easy to found. The pass could save a few dollors, but if you wanna save time, strongly recommended to add around 1600yen for express.

Nikko is full of tourists and there are lots of cars. It takes about 40 minutes to get from 1 spot to the next one. It's very beautiful but there's a lot of traffic jam Make sure to plan your trip with lots of spare time to ensure you enjoy Nikko to its fullest.
