East of the Kubuqi Desert in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, is a place that seems almost too magical to be possible: the Whistling Dune Bay. Known for its “singing sand”, the movement of the sand particles makes a sound. It could be like the roar of the sea, a deep symphonic bass, or even a thunderclap. Whatever you might hear, it's a unique phenomena that occurs in only three areas in the region, making this bay one of the top ten attractions in Inner Mongolia. A number of desert adventures can be found here (at your own expense): you can go over the dunes riding a camel, or surfing cars over the dines. You can ride bikes like a road warrior over the sands, or even paraglide if you opt for it. Sand sculptures can also be found here, and you can certainly enjoy the beauty of the sunrise and sunset on the dunes. It's a splendid opportunity to experience a magical desert you shouldn't miss.
