Stepping out of Akasaka Station, you enter a magical world. You can see the giant Time-Turner right from the station. The surrounding decorations make you feel like you've stepped into the show early. There's a Klook ticket exchange counter, and the directions are very clear, so you won't get lost. After entering, head to the counter to rent a subtitle device. It requires a ¥10,000 deposit, which is fully refunded after the show. The subtitle device is truly excellent; it helps you follow the plot directly. You won't feel disconnected from the show because you can't understand the language. The play is three hours and forty minutes long, and both halves are incredibly exciting! Every stage effect, costume change, and magical effect is fantastic! It was truly shocking when the Dementors appeared! Although the actors' constant shouting sometimes felt a bit distracting and overly emotional, overall, it was a truly wonderful and worthwhile experience!
The cast was spectacular! Visual and audio effects were superb. The subtitle was quite behind, though. Overall, a great experience for a Wizarding World fan. Looking forward to watch the English version in the near future.
Booked a flight to see "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" – it was well worth the trip! Stepping out of Akasaka Station, the Harry Potter-themed welcome was enchanting. The show started at 12:15 PM, with entry beginning at 11:45 AM. An hour before the show, I used my Klook QR code at the dedicated counter to exchange for tickets and choose seats. Act 1 was 100 minutes, followed by a 20-minute intermission, then Act 2 for another 100 minutes. The stage effects were superb, bringing the magic vividly to life. The specially made cloaks spun and danced on stage – so beautiful! The Dementors were huge, floating above the stage and audience, accompanied by dark, atmospheric music, filling the vast theater with a black magic ambiance. Towards the end of the play, even Voldemort appeared in the audience, making the whole experience incredibly exciting (?). There was actually a pool on stage, and Scorpius and Albus emerged soaking wet from it. The costume and scene changes were incredibly smooth; often, before I could fully grasp it, the scene had already shifted, and I couldn't figure out how Harry appeared from under an empty bedsheet. Since I don't understand Japanese, I memorized the play's plot in Taiwan beforehand to fully experience the magical effects on site. Since it was a dream-come-true plan, I naturally bought the most expensive theater tickets. The entire venue was packed, and the audience was incredibly enthusiastic. The downside was that the seats were very uncomfortable. I measured them with a tape measure myself: the chairs were about 40 cm wide, and the distance from the back of my seat to the seat in front was only about 70 cm. It was more uncomfortable than a budget airline. The theater + merchandise shop + cafe made for a magical Saturday.
This show is absolutely amazing as is the acting and special effects. I used the subtitle glasses since I don’t speak or understand Japanese and aside from some timing issues in the second half they were really good. If you book with the studio tour don’t do it on the same day. I made that mistake and had to rebook the tour because it takes upwards of 6 hours if you’re taking your time.
Can't go to the UK to see it, but it turns out you can see it nearby in Tokyo! I sincerely recommend all Harry Potter fans to come and see the Japanese version; it's quite fresh and special. Even on weekdays, the midday show is almost fully booked ☺️☺️. It doesn't matter if you don't understand Japanese; I highly recommend booking their English subtitle glasses service in advance. When you exchange your physical ticket at the venue, a staff member will take you to pick up the glasses and show you how to use them. They are very professional and thoughtful in catering to the needs of foreign audiences ❤️. Also, Naohito Fujiki plays Harry, so remember to check the official website to see which days he's starring as Harry, and you can catch a glimpse of him too! There's also a HP cafe near the theater, just a 5-minute walk away. You can book it on the cafe's website. Eating before or after the show is absolutely perfect!
Seats and Prices: This time, I booked two tickets through Klook, one for an S seat and one for an S Plus seat. We were among the first five to select seats, yet we were assigned two seats on the second floor, in the same row but separated by an aisle. I'm not sure if the ticketing staff saw that we were together and assigned seats this way, but having two different ticket prices for seats in the same area felt very unpleasant. Convenience of Booking with Klook: Tickets need to be exchanged at the box office before the show. Performance and Stage Effects: Foreigners can rent a subtitle device for free, so there's no need to worry about not understanding. The stage effects were incredibly magical, and the performance itself was absolutely spectacular. It's definitely worth seeing again.
I really loved it. All the actors performed exceptionally well. I recommend watching or listening to story spoilers on YouTube beforehand, or reading the book, to better understand the plot and characters. I cried at the end.
