Peter was a really wonderful tour guide and driver! He provided every little bit of information we needed to know about the tour and the location. During our 4-hour bus round trip, he didn't rest at all but kept providing us with useful information in a soft and low voice, which was perfect for those who wanted to listen and rest at the same time!
I had a really enjoyable day trip. Everything went smoothly. The driver and the cruise captain were friendly and professional. We felt well taken care of. Giethoorn is gorgeous and not to be missed if you visit the Netherlands.
Last year, I also visited Amsterdam, but I had a bad experience with a different tour. This one, however, was excellent! You should definitely go! Giethoorn, often called the 'Venice of the Netherlands,' is a charming water village in the northeastern Netherlands, boasting a fairytale-like landscape and 750 years of history. Its name, 'Giethoorn,' meaning 'goat's horn,' originated from the numerous goat horns discovered by early settlers in the marshlands. From the Middle Ages, peat excavation led to the formation of many lakes, and canals and waterways were dug to transport the peat. Along the narrow canals, which crisscross the village, brick houses with thatched roofs line the banks, and over 170 wooden bridges connect the areas. It's a small village that preserves a unique Dutch rural landscape. In Giethoorn, the only ways to get around are by foot, bicycle, or boat. Despite being a tourist destination, it's remarkably quiet, and every corner offers picturesque beauty.
Highly recommended tour! Getting to Giethoorn by public transport on your own can be troublesome and time-consuming. With this tour, you just need to arrive at This is Holland before 10 AM, find the staff wearing "Hop On Hop Off" uniforms, scan your QR code, and they will give you a bus ticket. You'll need to hand this ticket to the driver on the return journey. Our driver and guide, Gilbert, was very friendly and humorous, explaining history throughout the journey. The meeting time instructions were very clear, thumbs up! 👍🏻 The tour also includes a 1-hour boat trip. Gilbert led the entire group to the boarding point and advised us that we could use the restrooms at the restaurant providing the boat tour. After the boat trip, there's about 2-3 hours of free time to leisurely explore Giethoorn and find a restaurant for lunch on your own. Just be at the restaurant entrance at the designated meeting time.
In the morning, we gathered at This is Holland. The staff there were all foreigners and directed us to assemble according to the purple sign before boarding the tour bus. The bus ride to Giethoorn took about 1.5 to nearly 2 hours. The scenery along the way was quite pleasant, and we saw flower fields (in April). The driver also provided a brief introduction. Upon arrival, we first took a boat tour around the outer areas, with the captain providing commentary. Afterwards, we had about 4 hours of free time, with restaurants available for lunch. At the agreed time, we returned to the same tour bus and headed back to This is Holland, arriving at 6 PM.
We had an amazing time in Giethoorn! It was a wonderful experience from the beginning of the tour at the I am Holland service center, and we were lucky to have Gibert as our tour guide and the youngest captain on our boat trip! There was an issue getting on the coach at the beginning, but the staff there resolved it professionally and were super helpful. Gibert, the tour guide, is very experienced. The captain from the boat trip is super funny, and we enjoyed the boat ride so much! We highly recommend people to join!
We went to Giethoorn during the Easter holiday and everything was very good. The weather was good. The driver and guide, Gilbert, was nice, friendly, and humorous. We had a boat tour to go around Giethoorn and then had some free time to explore on our own.
If you go to Giethoorn by yourself, transportation is quite inconvenient. Joining a Klook tour allows you to reach the destination directly by coach, which is comfortable and convenient. The itinerary includes a one-hour sightseeing boat ride, followed by three hours of free time in Giethoorn. Although it's a bit rushed, walking along the canal offers pleasant scenery and a strong holiday vibe, making it a delightful experience. Back on the coach, the driver and guide even provided each of us with a bottle of water, which was very thoughtful!
The trip is worth it. Nice view. Highly recommended to go on this trip when you are in Amsterdam. Good place to take OOTD.
