Tickets and tour vouchers were obtained smoothly. Station staff directed us to platform B to wait for the guide to lead us onto the bus. Sitting on the upper deck of the double-decker bus provided a better view during the journey. The first stop was Afsluitdijk, where we had a brief 30-minute stay to learn about the Dutch dam engineering technology that balances the separation of sea and land. The second stop was Giethoorn. We first took a traditional boat tour for 1 hour, followed by a very generous 2.5 hours of free time. Strolling through the village with its small bridges, flowing water, and houses, the overall experience was very satisfying. I recommend this to travelers who don't want to go by themselves but wish to spend more time in Giethoorn.
We joined a one-day tour to Zaanse Schans and Giethoorn. Compared to independent travel, it saved us time and was more convenient. The private car picked us up from the hotel, eliminating the need to transfer between trains and buses, allowing us to visit two classic attractions on the same day. This was equivalent to freeing up an extra day to go elsewhere. Of course, choosing to take the train also offers a unique experience, but the tour was more efficient. Our tour guide, Suri, provided us with detailed explanations of the characteristics of both attractions and shared a lot about the history, culture, and local customs of the Netherlands. Her explanations were clear and vivid, and we learned a great deal. In Zaanse Schans, we visited a cheese factory and a clog workshop, both free of charge. We were able to watch the production process and taste authentic local flavors. In Giethoorn, we took a canal boat ride. The weather that day was excellent, and the picturesque rural scenery along the way, reflected in the water, was very charming. Our guide, Suri, personally piloted the boat, and we also had the opportunity to try steering it ourselves, which was a very memorable experience. Whether it's the traditional windmills and crafts or the beautiful scenery of the water village, both places showcase the unique characteristics of the Netherlands. If you're planning a trip to Amsterdam, this route is definitely a must-do. Highly recommended!
This is a day trip from Tours&Tickets. After collecting your tickets at Tours&Tickets in Amsterdam Central Station, head to Platform B on the 1st floor to board the double-decker bus. The tour guide on the bus occasionally provides commentary on nearby attractions and their history, often quite unexpectedly, so you might be startled awake if you're sleeping 😂. The tour first stops at Afsluitdijk for 15 minutes to see the dam separating the sea from the lake. Coincidentally, the bridge opened for a boat to pass through that day, so there was a short wait. Upon arriving at Giethoorn, you first take an approximately one-hour boat tour. The guide on the boat meticulously explains the history and culture of Giethoorn. After the boat tour, you'll have about two and a half hours of free time to take photos in the village or visit the Giethoorn Museum (tickets require an additional fee). There are also many restaurants, snack shops, and souvenir stores in the village. The return bus departs promptly at 5 PM and arrives back at Amsterdam Central Station around 6:30 PM. The buildings in Giethoorn each have their unique charm, making for a relaxing and pleasant stroll.
The travel agency proactively contacted us the day before to arrange pickup, which was quite reassuring. Unfortunately, our accommodation was not accessible by car, so we still had to walk to the designated meeting point. The bad weather on the day was a pity. During the Giethoorn boat tour, the guide was busy helping to steer the boat and didn't proactively offer to take photos for us. We had to keep asking, otherwise, we might not have had any photos from the entire boat trip. However, being able to ride in a small boat and having the opportunity to experience driving in the large lake was a big plus. Our vehicle was full that day, with a total of eight people. But because the nine-seater has three rows of seats, one pair was inevitably separated, which I think detracts from the travel experience, especially since the trip is not inexpensive.
The tour guide's proactive communication and itinerary arrangements were excellent. They also provided a great introduction to the historical background and cultural aspects of the Netherlands, demonstrating high professionalism. The time management was also impeccable.
The private car transfer was very comfortable, and the guide's introduction offered insights that are hard to experience when traveling independently. I really enjoyed the Zaanse Schans and Giethoorn itinerary; the scenery was beautiful and the boat tour experience was very special. I didn't expect such a large lake to be hidden behind the small village entrance. The Afsluitdijk is currently under renovation and is expected to be completed by 2026, so it might be more beautiful to visit then! Also, for this Chinese-speaking group tour, I initially thought it would be canceled because there were no other travelers, but the travel agency arranged a private tour for us, which was a great experience and made me feel much more confident booking future trips! I also highly recommend our Chinese-speaking guide, Su Rui; she was very friendly and provided detailed explanations. We had many interesting conversations about cultural differences between Asia and Europe, which was a very enjoyable experience!
I can’t recommend Pete enough as a tour guide! He has such a deep knowledge of not only Amsterdam and the places we visited but also showed genuine interest in the backgrounds of each of his tourists. His insights into the history and culture of the city were fascinating, and his stories kept me completely engaged—I could honestly listen to him talk all day. On top of that, he has a fantastic sense of humor that made the whole experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a tour guide who goes above and beyond, Pete is your guy!
