It was a great day. The transfer was seamless and the guides' English was excellent. Food and toilet stops were also provided, and an extra stop could always be requested. I enjoyed my three hours exploring the Kumano Kodo walking trail.
It's nearly perfect but heavy rain happened all day long, especially when we're in nachi waterfalls and pagoda. I think we don't really need to walk through the kumano kudo trail since vehicles can go through until the nachi waterfalls parking area. If I know there's another way to reach the waterfall and pagoda, I definitely will not go through the kumano kudo trail since I just want to see the beauty of the pagoda and nachi waterfalls. Overall it's a wonderful experience.
The meeting point was easy to locate with the clock landmark and the long drive of nearly 3 hours through the mountain tunnels towards Mie was smooth with our driver/ tour leader. we enjoyed the view of Nachi Falls, the highest waterfall in Japan as well as the breathtaking climb up to the pagoda, shrine and temple. The shops along the main road offered delicious lunch and tea options, together with great souvenir/ snacks shopping. On the way back, we stopped for photos at Lion Rock and traced a section of the rough coastal Kumano Kodo Walking Trail, doubling back after a distance, as the carpark was at Onigajo.
This activity includes a driver but no tour guide. The driver will be at 6:55 AM near the Nakamura Police Station, Nagoya Station West Police Box, holding an "Easy Go" sign. There will be one rest stop on both the outbound and return journeys. Fortunately, all the tourists were punctual, and we returned to Nagoya Station around 6 PM. We arrived at Daimonzaka at 10:30 AM and met at the Nachi Falls parking lot 3 hours later. If you don't stop to take photos, eat, and visit at a leisurely pace, 3 hours is enough to visit Kumano Nachi Taisha, Seiganto-ji Temple, the Three-Story Pagoda, and Nachi Falls. There are many stairs, so it is recommended to wear light clothing and athletic shoes. We arrived at Onigajo at 2:30 PM and had 1 hour of free time. 1 hour is not enough to walk the entire loop, and the ground is uneven, requiring physical exertion; you can only turn back along the path midway. However, the weather was excellent that day, and the scenery was beautiful, making it worth the visit. The driver worked hard on the long journey.
From Nagoya to Kumano Kodo, it takes approximately 3 to 4 hours (depending on traffic conditions), with a rest stop available during the journey. Upon arriving in the Kumano Kodo area, you will find many dining establishments along the road, and you simply need to follow the signage for a self-guided tour.
The meeting point was easy to find, but because the driver didn't arrive early (meeting time was 7:00 AM), we initially couldn't find "the person holding the EasyGo sign as mentioned in the itinerary." However, we were later able to participate in the activity smoothly. The overall activity was great. Although our free time was supposed to be reduced by an hour due to traffic, they still gave us four hours, which was plenty of time to complete the entire route (Daimon-zaka - Kumano Nachi Taisha - Seiganto-ji Temple - Three-story Pagoda - Hiro Shrine - Nachi Falls). I highly recommend this to travelers visiting Nagoya independently. You can set aside a day to go on this trip – it will definitely surprise you and leave you wanting more!
Our tour guide, Kaku, was incredibly nice. He patiently explained the itinerary to guests in Chinese, English, and Japanese. He also helped me take many photos. The plum ice cream and rockfish set meal he recommended were also delicious! It happened to be raining in the Kumano Kodo area today, so the Nachi Falls had a very strong flow. The overall trip was excellent, and I'll definitely try other Easy Go day tours next time. BTW, many friends in this group booked their tickets through Klook. The Taiwanese aunt sitting next to me was very happy to learn I was a Klook employee.
The cobblestone steps and the view of the falls and pagoda were the highlights of the trip for me. The land travel was long, but we did make reasonable stops at service stations.
