We went for dinner around 3 PM that day. There weren't many diners, and the restaurant was spacious and bright. We were lucky to encounter a Chinese female staff member who made ordering and communication completely seamless. We chose a set meal that included chilled pufferfish salad, pufferfish sashimi, fried pufferfish, and pufferfish hotpot. The chilled pufferfish salad with its sauce was delicious! The pufferfish sashimi had no taste on its own and needed soy sauce; it had a soft, chewy texture. The fried pufferfish was surprisingly good, as I usually don't like fried food, but with one bite, it was full of juicy flavor (?). Anyway, it was very tasty! The pufferfish hotpot had a very light broth, and the cooked pufferfish tasted like regular fish, served with some vegetables. We also ordered shark fin sake, which unfortunately wasn't to our taste. It's a pity I was wearing a kimono that day and couldn't eat too much, but I still highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try pufferfish cuisine.
Gempin Fugu truly lives up to its reputation and is worth trying! For the Tenraku set meal, you select your time slot and pay online in Taiwan. Upon arrival, you can inform the staff that you'd like to upgrade the "hot pot meat" to thick-cut for an additional 1100 JPY per person. You can pay the extra charge after your meal. The entire set includes: fugu sashimi, fried fugu, grilled fugu (guests grill themselves), and a gold leaf collagen hot pot. When the clear broth is first poured in, you can see shimmering gold leaf (guests cook themselves). After finishing the hot pot, the staff will add egg and rice to make zosui. The dessert after the meal is sorbet. Hot tea is provided free of charge. The entire meal takes approximately two hours. The dining environment is excellent, with two people seated in a small private room with a wooden door. The soundproofing isn't great, of course, but it offers plenty of privacy and the space is large and comfortable. It's a 6-minute walk from Shinjuku-sanchome Station.
Fugu essen stand schon lange auf meiner Wunschliste. Endlich hatte ich hier bei Guenpin die Gelegenheit, es zu probieren. Zunächst einmal muss ich sagen, dass der Service erstklassig war. Man gab mir ein privates Zimmer (ich weiß nicht, ob das immer so ist und ich habe auch nicht danach gefragt). Ich wählte ein Menü namens Daigo-Kurs. Das Highlight des Menüs war der frittierte Kugelfisch. Alles in allem, wenn Sie diese Delikatesse ohne Vergiftungsrisiko probieren möchten, ist dies der richtige Ort. Ich bin wirklich froh, dass ich es probiert habe.

At 12 o'clock, there was already a queue of people at the popular restaurant. At 12 o'clock, those with reservations were seated, and outside, there were people without reservations who had to wait. After the waiter introduced the set menus, I ordered the natural fugu set, choosing the 7-course natural sake set, which is only available at specific branches. The fugu skin, fugu sashimi, and karaage-style fugu were served very quickly. The fugu sashimi, when dipped in their special sauce, was more flavorful. The main highlights were the hot pot and the takikomi gohan, both prepared by a dedicated staff member. These two dishes are a must-try. The waiter's service attitude was excellent. I highly recommend everyone to try it at least once.
The price is very reasonable, worth trying. Many local Japanese people were eating there. I tried the peach juice puffer fish collagen jelly, and it was delicious! The staff are patient, kind, and helpful.

The restaurant is located near the Asakusa Temple shopping street, easily found on Google Maps. Just looking at the exterior, it already gives off a high-class vibe. The interior is clean and spacious. I initially thought there would only be a few dishes, allowing me to eat and then try another place, but it turned out to be very filling. Each dish was exquisite and surprising, and the chef has many years of professional certification, so you can tell the chef's knife skills are very proficient. I will definitely come again next time! ^_^Y
It was my first time trying fugu (pufferfish), and it turns out it doesn't have much of a special taste. We each paid an extra 300 yen (not the 200 yen Klook stated, perhaps the price increased?) for thick-cut sashimi. Among all the dishes, the fried fugu was the most delicious, along with the porridge, and of course, the dessert. We chose the Shinjuku South branch, and since I didn't know how to get there, it took a long time to find it in the end 🙈.
Delicious taste, unique texture. The fish meat is springy and firm, and the fish skin is crispy. It's really tasty! For anyone who is still deciding, I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.
