The Cultural Yacht 🛥️ has three sailing times (40-minute journey): 10:40, 14:40, and 16:10. The return times are 13:50, 16:55, and 19:50, respectively. I visited during the Dragon Boat Festival, and it was quite hot, so I chose the evening slot for a cooler temperature. If you opt for the couple's ticket with a meal, remember to call the Gaotazi Revolving Restaurant (07-8711707) to make a reservation in advance. The restaurant is a 5-minute walk from the pier. Considering the high outdoor temperature, I scheduled my reservation 10 minutes after disembarking, allowing me to enjoy a meal in the air-conditioned revolving restaurant while admiring the harbor and coastal scenery outside the window – it was very pleasant. Taking the Cultural Yacht to Hongmaogang Cultural Park for an outing is a very interesting way to get there. Driving directly from North Kaohsiung to Xiaogang is quite a long distance. Instead, taking the yacht eliminates driving fatigue and allows you to enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery and the landmark buildings of the harbor, which are even more spectacular and offer a broader view compared to observing them from the shore. The Cultural Yacht also has professional tour guides who explain the scenery along the harbor, making the journey even more enjoyable.
Our group of four experienced the half-day Hongmaogang tour with a buy-three-get-one-free offer. Along the way, with the detailed explanations from our guide, we departed from Pier 2 and, in the comfort of an air-conditioned cultural yacht, the Hongmaogang route led us on a cruise around Kaohsiung Port. We recommend paying attention to the direction of the sunset when choosing your seats to ensure proper sun protection. From the sea, we observed warships, cargo ships, shipyards, repair docks, and international cruise ships entering the port, a magnificent sight that was truly eye-opening. Once ashore, another local Hongmaogang guide warmly welcomed us, explaining how the traditional culture of the community was preserved after relocation and the process of establishing the Hongmaogang Cultural Association. He led us on a tour of the park's landscape and architecture, and the exhibition hall introduced the rich local fishing resources and culture. During our free time, we had dinner at the revolving restaurant within the park, enjoying close-up views of large ships entering the port while admiring the beautiful sunset over the harbor. Since it was a weekday, there weren't many people, and the park, with its gentle sea breeze, felt as if time stood still, as beautiful as a poem. On the return journey, Kaohsiung Port at night presented a different yet equally captivating scene, with our guide providing commentary throughout. This cultural journey felt like stepping into the history of Hongmaogang. Although my clumsy hands couldn't capture even one percent of the beauty, I highly recommend everyone to experience this in-depth cultural package tour of Kaohsiung Port at least once, to truly experience the memories and culture of Hongmaogang. You definitely won't regret it.
I had been looking forward to this trip for a long time, so I chose a holiday to go. It was a cultural tour from Pier-2 Art Center to Hongmaogang. Our professional guide, Teacher Hong, was incredibly knowledgeable; he could immediately introduce anything we saw, and we listened with great interest. The entire boat trip was about 35-40 minutes, and we never got tired of listening. Upon arriving at Hongmaogang, there was also a local guide to help us understand the culture of Hongmaogang. Next, we went to the Gaotazi Revolving Restaurant, which slowly rotates, offering 360-degree views. Perhaps because it was summer, the weather changed quickly, sometimes sunny, sometimes rainy. The minimum spend per person at the restaurant is NT$500, payable by cash or online transfer; credit cards are not accepted. If you are traveling alone, you can still experience it, as there are suitable meal options for single diners.
Although online information states that KW2 can be reached in 5 minutes on foot from Exit 2 of Sizihwan Station on the Orange Line, there were no signs outside Exit 2 indicating the direction to KW2. I had to ask staff at nearby shops to find out the walking direction. In contrast, Exit 1 of Sizihwan Station on the Orange Line has clear signs pointing towards the Gushan Ferry Terminal for boats to Cijin. After arriving at KW2, there were no signs, either outside or inside, indicating where to pick up the package tickets. Finally, after asking several shop staff both outside and inside, I found the counter for the package tickets. After picking up the tickets and pushing open the door towards the cruise ship berths, I looked back and realized that the ticket counter was right next to KW2's popular attraction, the white carousel! The tour guide on the boat provided detailed and professional explanations of the scenery on both banks during both the outbound and return journeys. Upon arriving at Fort San Domingo, you can immediately join a free guided tour led by a guide to explore the city area, or you can explore freely and visit exhibitions. Finally, we went to the Little Red Canteen, which is the Gaotzi Tower Revolving Restaurant, for dinner. Unexpectedly, the seafood was very fresh, and the quality and price of the food were truly excellent value for money, with no overcharging. All the advantages mentioned above definitely compensate for the time spent asking for directions and searching for the ticket counter. Overall, this trip is highly recommended.
The yacht tour was very comprehensive and detailed. The yacht sailed smoothly, the cabin was air-conditioned, the sofas were very comfortable, and the views were clear. The brief tour of Hongmaogang allowed us to learn about the history of the Hongmaogang settlement before and after its relocation. We recommend the excellent value two-person set meal at the revolving restaurant. The restaurant's view and its partitioned layout are very distinctive. Every dish was delicious, and the recommended cheese we ordered separately was very special. We suggest it be served with the meal so it doesn't arrive before it's thawed. Remember to make a reservation in advance.
I purchased a round-trip ferry ticket to Hongmaogang Cultural Park with a cultural guided tour on Klook. The cultural yacht was very comfortable, equipped with sofa seating, and there was a guide inside the cabin providing explanations, allowing people to enjoy the continuous busy operations of Kaohsiung Port. After disembarking at Hongmaogang Cultural Park, you can also see magnificent container ships up close. The guide's explanations were lively and engaging, full of historical significance, and you could feel their dedication! For tourists, this is a very special travel experience!
After careful consideration, we chose the 4:10 PM weekday ferry, arriving at Hongmaogang around 4:50 PM. We were able to see both the sunset and the evening moon! Please note that on weekdays, the exhibition hall only stays open until 7:00 PM, which we missed. At the Gaozitai revolving restaurant, there is no minimum spend for walk-in guests on weekdays. With the discount coupon provided when purchasing tickets, you can get a 20 NTD discount on purchases over 300 NTD, and a 50 NTD discount on purchases over 500 NTD. The food is average; perhaps it will improve if it becomes more popular someday. Due to its remote location, there aren't many tourists. The facilities are relatively new, but it's a shame it hasn't developed further.
Note: The revolving restaurant has a minimum charge of NT$500 per person! Buying the round-trip ferry ticket to Hongmaogang Cultural Park + cultural guided tour + meal package for two on Klook offers great value for money and is more cost-effective! You can take a beautiful and comfortable yacht. When the weather is hot, you can enjoy the air conditioning in the cabin and listen to the guide's explanation. You can also sit in the sofa area at the stern of the boat to enjoy the sea breeze, watch Kaohsiung Port, and admire the sunset. In addition, watching large container ships enter the port at Hongmaogang Cultural Park is a rare experience for tourists!
