Incredible! The class was such a fun and memorable experience! The host Rie created a warm, welcoming atmosphere and was incredibly patient and attentive with our two children aged 6 & 9. Everyone was able to participate and enjoy themselves regardless of skill level. The guidance was clear, encouraging, and made learning feel easy and enjoyable. We left not only more confident with chopsticks but also with great memories. Definitely worth trying! We didn't feel pressured about upgrading the wood or engraving but ended with x3 upgraded woods and x3 engraving adding a personal touch. Thank you Rie,
It was a very nice experience and a great souvenir to take home. We received very good instructions and help when something didn't work so well. The instructors were very kind and also paid attention to safety, ensuring that no one got hurt with the planes. Thank you very much for a lasting memory!
Our package offers a choice between only two types of wood, and all other wood types incur additional costs (from 2,000 to 10,000 yen) and were said to pose more difficulty in crafting the chopsticks due to wood hardness. The location is pinned on Google Maps and is within walking distance from Shinjuku Station, and the class isn't strictly one-on-one. Most instructors were European, so there isn't much of a language barrier. They are all approachable for any questions or assistance, in case there's an issue with the blade or you're having difficulty with your wood type (or perhaps you're unknowingly going against the grain). Making the chopsticks requires effort and care, but even children can participate with you because of the wood docks/molds you can use to secure the chopstick while shaving/carving it. Such a unique experience and definitely worth the price!
I was looking for things to do in Tokyo and immediately booked this experience as soon as I saw the advertisement! If you book in advance, you can make it at your desired time. Even though it was a weekday, there were many customers, so I think it's great to visit with a reservation. There were about 10 different types of wood, so I could choose the one I wanted. They kindly explained everything from carving to finishing the wood, which made it a fun experience. I was assisted by a staff member named Momo, who spoke excellent English, so there were no communication issues even though I don't speak Japanese. She also mentioned she was studying Korean, which was a pleasant surprise! I was very grateful for her always smiling and talking to me. If you're visiting Tokyo, I highly recommend the chopstick-making experience to create a souvenir and make lasting memories!
¡GUAU GUAU GUAU GUAU!
Mio was our expert today and she was so amazing and patient with us. Thanks to Mio we were able to help us make the most amazing chopsticks ever. We will be eating with our sticks for a long time to come!!!!
We had a wonderful time! We arrived a little early and Yin immediately greeted us and welcomed us into the shop. He explained the different wood options and walked us through the process of making our chopsticks. He was nearby the entire time and made sure he answered all of our questions. We love our end results and would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in making their own chopsticks.
One of the best experiences I’ve had in Tokyo. Yin walked me through every step patiently and made the whole process feel really approachable even for a complete beginner. I got so into it I cut myself on the wood shaver but honestly totally worth it. Ended up with a beautiful pair of hinoki chopsticks engraved with my name, Tokyo, and the date. The wood shavings alone were satisfying to watch. Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Shinjuku.
