You can choose to redeem your vouchers at Nishitetsu Tenjin Station or Nishitetsu Yakuin Station. Vouchers can only be redeemed and used on the same day. Upon arrival at Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station, there used to be a free shuttle bus to the boarding area. However, when I visited in June, the shuttle bus became a paid service (requiring an additional ticket). If you choose to walk, it takes about 5-8 minutes to reach the boarding area. Boats depart once they are full. The boatman will introduce the scenery and buildings along the way, and occasionally sing a few songs. Some boatmen provide commentary entirely in Japanese, while others mix in Chinese and English. Whether you're going to Yanagawa or Dazaifu, there are often special tourist trains, the 'Tabibito' and 'Suito' trains, available during certain times. You'll need to check their official websites for schedules. After arriving at Dazaifu, you can use the Ume-ga-mochi exchange coupon on the far left of your ticket at participating stores. Remember to ask the store before exchanging, as not all stores participate. If you don't plan to eat it immediately, you can also ask for it to go. The shopping street around Dazaifu is well worth exploring. If the Ichiran Ramen queue is too long, you can satisfy your craving at Danbo Ramen, which is diagonally opposite the station. The Dazaifu Pudding across from the station has a very rich milky flavor, and the slightly bitter caramel perfectly balances the sweetness. Additionally, there are Sumikko Gurashi and Ghibli stores nearby, as well as the famous wooden Starbucks designed by Kengo Kuma, which is perfect for a quick photo and a refreshing summer drink. The shopping street generally closes between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Don't worry about missing a train back to Tenjin or Yakuin, as services are very frequent!
Overall, the cost-effectiveness isn't very high; it saved a little money, but not much. As for the activities, the hour-long boat ride in Yanagawa was quite good. The boatman, an elderly gentleman in his seventies or eighties, sang and talked for about 70 to 80 minutes straight, all while maintaining a cheerful demeanor. He could sing Chinese songs and entertained everyone on board. Although it was a bit sunny, the time passed quickly. However, apart from the boat ride, there's really nothing else fun to do in Yanagawa. Dazaifu was quite boring; it's just a commercial street. The main hall was under renovation, so a temporary hall was set up in front, which I actually found more distinctive. What attracted me to Dazaifu were the various large and giant trees. It's rare to see trees that require seven or eight people to embrace in China, but Dazaifu had quite a few. Other than that, it's just typical Tenmangu Shrine stuff, nothing special.
This ticket offers great value, and you have more control over your time. On the day, you can pick up the tickets at Nishitetsu Tenjin (North Exit) (although the email said South Exit). I had read many comments beforehand and knew that at Yanagawa Station, there would be staff to guide us to the free shuttle bus, which was very clear. After the boat ride, there was no one to guide us to the free shuttle bus for the return journey; we were just told to follow the provided map to find it ourselves! I had done my homework and looked at the map before, but I still couldn't understand it on the spot. Plus, with buses every 00 minutes, it would be difficult to find it in a hurry. So, I had already planned to take a bus back to Yanagawa Station. In the end, I went to see "Yanagawa Castle Ruins" because it was near the bus stop (Honjo-machi Station). When it was almost time, I walked to take a paid bus. (You can search for Ohana-mae Station/Honjo-machi Station on Google Maps). To go to Dazaifu, you need to transfer at Futsukaichi. If you plan to go to "Ichiran Ramen," you need to get a ticket early. You'll only get a seat after visiting Tenmangu Shrine for 1.5-2 hours.
definitely goto nishitetsu tenjin station to get your ticket inside the customer service office next to the booth. show the tickets though the ticket office and not at the kioski. once inside, find the Omuta line. whwn you get to yanagawa, as you exit, goto the customer service so they can take the stub off. after that, someone will tell you where to go to take the shuttle bus to take the boats. our punter did not climb over bridges, but did sing a couple of songs and explained a few things. it's a one way boat trip, so you have to walk to the shuttle bus, which was a little confusing to find. Dazaifu is just as described. We went on a rainy day so we were able to sit and eat ichiran right away. overall, a good package.
Upon arriving at Tenjin to exchange for the package, the staff will ask for your desired date of use and the number of people after you present your voucher. Their service attitude is excellent, so remember to keep your tickets safe. As soon as we reached Yanagawa, someone immediately approached us to ask if we were there for the boat ride. We followed the staff to board the shuttle bus. The entire process was very smooth. The weather for the boat ride was fantastic and very comfortable; those who are sensitive to the sun should definitely wear a hat. The boatman conversed with us using his limited English, which was very entertaining. The songs he sang seemed to be famous tunes; the melodies felt familiar, but besides Doraemon, I really didn't know the names of the songs 😂. Afterwards, we went to Dazaifu to exchange for Umegae Mochi, which was hot and fragrant~ My family thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip 🥳
The package is very practical. You can purchase the package on KLOOK on the same day and exchange it for physical tickets at either the Tenjin-Minami or Tenjin-Kita exits of the Nishitetsu Line. Show the physical ticket when entering the station, and the station staff will tear off the ticket upon exit for redemption. There was about a 40-minute wait to board the boat at Yanagawa, possibly due to more tourists during cherry blossom season. The cherry blossoms at the boarding area are beautiful, and the boatman sang 1-2 songs along the way, creating a serene landscape. The unagi (eel) rice bowl wasn't very cost-effective, but it's still worth trying. You can exchange for Umegae Mochi at many shops. Overall, I highly recommend this package; it made for a wonderful memory.
It was really, really great! I went to Yanagawa first, and there don't seem to be many restaurants nearby... But there was an unagi (eel) rice bowl place, and it was good! It's only a 6-minute walk to the boat ride area, so it's easy to get there. The boat ride was so healing, and they even explained things to us. The atmosphere was nice, and they sang songs for us, which was lovely. Dazaifu was also very beautiful and enjoyable. The food sold there was also very delicious and great! Haha.
2025.10.16 Used by Taiwanese people, it's fantastic. Early in the morning, I took my parents from Hakata to Tenjin to pick up the vouchers. You can pick up the vouchers from the office on the 2nd floor of Nishitetsu Tenjin Station, accessible from Exit W5 of the underground shopping street. I saw a review suggesting going to Yanagawa first, then Dazaifu, and I think this arrangement is excellent. Following it, it was truly great! All train tickets are included, and you can even take a boat. For the guided tour, I recommend downloading Google Translate; you can understand almost everything being said. Highly recommended! Oh, and when you get to Dazaifu, you can first go to Ichiran next to the station to get a numbered ticket. We finished sightseeing and came back just in time to eat a bowl and leave. It was absolutely perfect!
The Nishitetsu trains are quite frequent, so it's very convenient. This time, I took the "Mizuto" limited express train, which only stops at a few major stations and is much faster. We probably took the 11:00 train and arrived at Yanagawa at 11:50. After exiting Yanagawa Station, staff guided us to the shuttle bus, which took us directly to the boarding point for the boat ride and gave us an explanatory map. After disembarking, you need to walk about 5 minutes to reach the shuttle bus stop. The shuttle bus runs once an hour, and there are also city buses and taxis as options. At each station, the staff kindly tear off the ticket stub. I think the Yanagawa experience is a very good itinerary.
