To save time and hassle from traveling, we signed up for this tour. It seemed like there were assigned seats on the bus, but the tour guide didn't tell us, and we only found out we were in someone else's seats when dinner boxes were distributed in the evening. The zoo visit in the morning was only 1.5 hours. If you want more time to explore, it's recommended to eat lunch on the bus beforehand, or eat on the way to the icebreaker after visiting the zoo! Our group arrived at 11:20 AM and got off at the East Gate, unfortunately missing the penguin parade! Also, the ground at the zoo is very slippery during the snowy season, so it's advisable to wear ice cleats for better walking. In the afternoon, we took the last icebreaker cruise. We were very lucky and successfully sailed out to see the drift ice. The self-paid crab meat bento for dinner was delicious and offered great value for money! The tour, from 9 AM to 10 PM, involves more than half the time spent on the bus, which can be a bit tiring, so be prepared.

Arrived at the east gate of Asahiyama Zoo at 11:05, immediately rushed to the penguin walk near the west gate, just in time to see the penguin walk! The weather was excellent today for the icebreaker, and we even caught up with the drift ice, it was fantastic! You can check the weather forecast on the official website in advance, which will also tell you if the ship will sail. If it's not sailing, you can cancel your trip in advance (usually requires two days' notice) to avoid unnecessary waste. This trip is highly recommended for those with children; although a bit tiring, it's truly wonderful.

The icebreaker schedule is very unpredictable, so I went to Monbetsu prepared for a cancellation. Unexpectedly, I managed to get on the last ship. I felt very lucky and also grateful to the driver and tour guide. The only slight issue was that the guide's English was quite basic, making communication a bit difficult, but she made a serious effort to use a translator. Overall, I recommend it.

For individual travelers, being able to make a round trip in a single day is a huge draw. From 8 AM to 10 PM, the scenery along the way is also incredibly magnificent. Highly recommended.

Although the tour guide doesn't speak Chinese, there are Chinese audio guides available for the itinerary. The icebreaker tour was fantastic! The drift ice stretched endlessly and was incredibly beautiful 🥹🙂‍↔️

When the staff on the bus introduced things in Japanese, they were very thorough, but in English, they only gave a brief overview. However, for boarding and meeting regulations, explanations are played in Japanese and English, with additional broadcasts in Chinese and Korean. Why can't the introductions be played in the same way? It's really frustrating to hear so much Japanese only to get one sentence in English. The departure time is constantly reminded, but other things are treated casually. Regarding the itinerary, if traffic is smooth, we should arrive at Asahiyama Zoo around 11 AM, allowing us to participate in the penguin walk. Lunch needs to be self-provided; it's recommended to buy something in advance to eat on the bus. Two hours are allocated for exploring the zoo. For the Monbetsu icebreaker, today there was only open water, no drift ice (this is beyond human control). If you haven't pre-ordered a bento box on the bus for dinner, there's a convenience store where you can buy something before boarding the icebreaker.

The itinerary was quite packed, and unfortunately, the weather wasn't good this time, so we didn't see very beautiful drift ice. However, I felt that the captain tried his best to find a sparse patch of ice and sailed through it.
