Good
My wise grandmother once said, you get what you pay for. With that in mind, I can't really complain about the room, except for the shower. Let's start with the positives! Very large room, olde world charm and heritage look inside and out, Staff very friendly, and the food is great. Being an innner city pub you would think the noise level would be high. On the contrary; at 10 oclock you could hear a pin drop. Very close to the beach and cafes. Old Hunter Street has a great bakery called My Baker. Brilliant. Now the not so positives. I had five showers on my stay 3 were lukewarm at best. The rooms while large and clean are old and need of repairs or refits. The shower temperature has a lot left to be desired, but maybe I was just unlucky in my room. Chipped paint, and a very old bathroom with wood missing on the sill. It has a balcony but the venetian blinds need to be repaired. Overall would I stay there again? possibly but I think I will be seeking an upgrade. Oh yes just be warned no lift, beautiful grand staircase to climb.

Great
The only small problem was the number of stairs we had to go up to our room. Need to be very fit. And we are 64 carrying baggage as well, but the beer went down well.

Room simple but included all needed elements. Queen bed two singles pushed together. Need to avoid the gap.

The hotel is in an excellent location and has an old- time charm. The staff were excellent: very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. The bathroom had been renovated and had a great shower with excellent water pressure.

Well it is an Old Pub so dont expect it to be pristine, It is a Grand old Pub and just leave your ego at the front door and enjoy what this pub has to offer, Cold Beer and good Pub Grub and good conversation.

The room was spacious (we were in grand room 7), had access to a balcony, was clean (though dated) and the bed was extremely comfortable. As the check in is done by bar staff, there wasn’t a lot of help or guidance as to what to do in the area or places to eat. The bistro at the hotel had great food and a great nearby cafe (Xtraction) where we went for breakfast. Whilst there was a kettle and toaster, there were only two coffee mugs and two glasses (which were used to hold the milk packets in the fridge ). No plates or cutlery, besides one teaspoon. There was nothing to wash/dry the dishes with. But whilst spartan, it was comfortable and we’d stay there again (we now know what to bring). It was very close to Newcastle beach.
