Things to do in Gifu Prefecture

Anyone who isn't sure which tour company to choose should take a look at my experience. My tour guide this time was Ryuu Ken (Little Liu), and he was absolutely wonderful! He is fluent in Japanese, English, and Chinese 👍 and is also extremely responsible! We had 1.5 hours at the Takayama Old Town and 2.5 hours at Shirakawa-go. I felt that 1.5 hours at Takayama Old Town was a bit short to fully enjoy it, but I still managed to eat everything I wanted to! The other members of the group were also of very high quality; the bus rides were super quiet, and everyone was extremely punctual. Based on my observations, there were foreigners, people from Hong Kong, and people from Taiwan! Our driver, Mr. Ishikawa, was also very skilled, and the bus was extremely clean with no strange odors or cigarette smoke. All in all, I highly recommend joining a guided day trip to Takayama.

Thanks to our guide Max, this tour was wonderful because we were able to visit Shirakawago, Takayama, and Gujo Hachiman—places I really wanted to see—all in just one day! It was so convenient to easily visit spots that would otherwise be a hassle to reach independently, and each region had its own unique atmosphere, making it a lot of fun to explore 😊 Anyone who loves nature and the countryside will be very satisfied with this tour! The guide was also friendly and gave great explanations, which made the trip even more enjoyable. We met at the Silver Clock in Nagoya Station, which was a very easy-to-find location! As a solo traveler, I was initially quite worried, but the tour guide spoke fluent Japanese, Mandarin, and English, and gave very clear instructions. We spent two hours at each of the two attractions, which felt like just enough time. There's no way around it, as the round trip from Nagoya takes almost five hours in total. However, having a dedicated car service is a must for solo travelers and those without a driver's license. The tour bus was clean and comfortable, and I was very satisfied overall. We returned to Nagoya Station around 6:30 PM that evening, and the timing was consistent with the itinerary description!

Shirakawa-go and Takayama Tour is one of the best tours you can get in Nagoya. The tour consists of going to Takayama with some guided excursions. The orientation while inside the bus with the maps provided by the guide was enough for us to be well-guided with the best places to go in Takayama and Shirakawa-go. This tour provided observation deck access, which allowed us to take pictures and buy souvenirs. The tour in Takayama is one of the best tours we had since we were able to roam freely. In Shirakawa-go, we were also able to roam freely.

Really impressive itinerary and plenty of time in every location. Weather was a bit rainy, but it made the atmosphere iven more special. Enjoyed it a lot! Guide Han is super nice and gave plenty of information about the places we are visiting but also about Nagoya.

The Shinhotaka Ropeway is divided into two sections. First, you take a small cable car to the second platform, and then transfer to a large ropeway to go up the mountain. The air and temperature at the summit are noticeably different, and there are exclusive goods and food for sale. The scenery is gorgeous, and staying for about an hour is just right. I truly recommend it! It should be even more beautiful to see the fall foliage or snow scenery in autumn and winter.

We started and ended on time. Our tour guide, Ceasar, was helpful and knowledgeable about the tour. Special thanks to our bus driver, Yamafuji, who brought us back safely to Kanazawa.
