Great day tour experience to Kamakura. The day tour was by Gogoday Travel, quite a big tour company with many groups gathering at the same time so watch out for the flag number and check in with the guide holding the flag. they will email you the day before to provide the meeting details and contacts like WhatsApp, Line. The bus was big and seats were comfortable. Our guide Alex was excellent, he is fluent in both English and Mandarin and always provide the information in both languages. He was reassuring and generous in his assistance throughout the trip. The weather was good although it was a little hot from the walking and we couldn't see Mt Fuji from Enoshima island. the duration was good so that we were back in Shinjuku by 5.30pm. For those who prefer front seats in bus, select priority seats with a bit more fees.

Great value for money. The places we went to were far from each other so having joined this tour was definitely worth it. I personally love the view from Mt. Sarakura. It was a stunning sun shining view from the cable car and from the viewing decks. It was truly breathtaking. How we wished we could have seen the actual sunset from the top as well as the night view but since it was summer, the sunset will be at 19:30 and the tour needs to comply with the set schedule. Tour guide Hedy was nice and approachable. We had a smooth ride and we felt like the timings on each designated stops had ample time to enjoy the places without the need to rush. I highly recommend this especially if you want to maximize your time in Fukuoka and visit many places in just one day.

It was a great experience. We easily found the meeting point at Hakata Station. Our guide, Nanami, was incredibly friendly and effortlessly switched between Chinese, Japanese, and English, explaining the itinerary and providing brief details about the attractions. The mini-bus was also very comfortable, and the driver was skilled. If you have luggage, you need to contact them via email in advance. We were lucky today; although it was cloudy with scattered showers, it didn't rain during our visits to the attractions, even though it rained heavily on the road. The turbulent sea and the vibrant red torii gate offered a wonderful experience. Akiyoshido Cave was quite cool inside, so bringing a jacket is recommended; it felt like a cave exploration. The crepes at the ice cream shop by the cave entrance were mediocre and not cheap.

Today, our tour was led by tour guide Zhang Qing from Gogoday. The entire itinerary was very smooth, and we had plenty of time. Our guide was experienced and eager to help with any questions or issues from the group members, getting along well with everyone. During the trip, the sushi at Karato Market was inexpensive and delicious, with toppings twice the size of the rice. Kokura Castle had many interactive facilities. At the outlet, we took the kids to Asoble to experience the giant claw machine. The night view from Mount Sarakura lived up to its reputation. It was a very enjoyable day.

our tour guide 孙楠Sun is very polite and kind as he bring us to our day trip to Mojiko whereas he give us good tip where we could get our good sashimi at the fish market . we also enjoy our little boat ride across to visit the fish market too. food are fresh and delicious. Following after that we are being bought to a outlet district as we manage to get many good Japanese label at good price and plus a bonus to see Ultraman exhibition that is currently exhibiting . lastly we went to Sakakurayama for our stunning night view cable tour which really wrapped up our day with a beautiful end of tour

Lisa was our tour guide, and she was phenomenal in guiding us through the spots our bus took us too. She was happy to tell us the location for good photos and to help us take photos, too. She spoke English and Mandarin well to everyone in the bus. This tour specifically is worth it!

Having visited Fukuoka several times, I became interested in a side trip this time and joined a day tour. Even though I was traveling alone, our young and handsome guide was so kind all day long that I felt comfortable and had a wonderful time. It was even better because not only did he explain the sights well, but he also recommended great places to eat. I especially remember eating fresh sushi that I picked out myself at the Karato Market while looking out at the ocean. The exotic atmosphere of Mojiko Retro was lovely, and it was fun to watch the bridge open on schedule. After exploring Kokura Castle and the nearby market, I even enjoyed a delicious tempura restaurant recommended by our guide. It would have been hard to see and do this much on my own, so I was very satisfied to experience so many places comfortably. If you have already explored downtown Fukuoka multiple times, I definitely recommend taking a side day tour. It was a wonderful day! 😊 The guide even shared a list of Fukuoka's best restaurants at the end.

What to know before visiting Shimonoseki

Top experiences overview

Shimonoseki’s Things to Do scene is dominated by guided tours, which account for the bulk of bookings and shape the city’s rhythm across the year. Demand climbs through late spring, peaks in 9月, then falls away toward the winter trough in 12月, so the busiest months concentrate on outdoor and seasonal tour experiences.

Activities by traveller type

Families will find guided tours convenient—easy to join and broadly suitable for mixed ages, with options ranging from entry-level to more premium experiences. Couples often choose tours that combine local culture and scenery for a relaxed shared day out. Solo travellers and small groups benefit from the same tours too, since they offer flexible pickup and a wide spread of price and activity levels to match different budgets.

What travellers from the United States book ahead

Most travellers spending around 19 days in destination tend to plan and book in advance, with earlier planners locking things in roughly 49 days ahead; this matters most in the peak month of 9月. That said, the market still sees some last-minute availability, so travellers who value flexibility can often pick up tours within a few days of travel.

Category comparison

Tours are both the most common and the broadest category here: they represent the easiest way in and cover the widest range of prices and styles, from entry-level group outings to higher-end options. Because Tours are the only category listed, they set the local price spectrum—some options sit at the entry-level while others reach mid-range, making tours suitable for families, couples and solo travellers alike. For most visitors, booking a tour is the simplest way to experience Shimonoseki’s highlights without navigating multiple separate providers.
