What to expect

Naoshima is the main island of a town consisting of 27 islands governed by Kagawa Prefecture. The island's history dates back to the Heian period, but today it is known for its contemporary art museums, which attract tourists from all over the world, especially during the Setouchi Triennale art event held every three years in the region. As the island is part of the Seto Inland Sea National Park, there are strict regulations on the visual impact of new buildings, so many of the art museums are built underground, creating a unique and interesting aesthetic.
