What to expect
As we all know, Suzhou River is the mother river of Shanghai. Although it is not as majestic as the Pujiang River, it represents the most life-oriented Shanghai and has given birth to important capillaries related to Shanghai's urban economic development such as docks, warehouses, and national assets. As recently as the 1990s, most of the Suzhou River was still a smelly urban river that no one would walk on. The improvement of the Suzhou River has taken nearly 30 years. Nowadays, both sides of the Taiwan Strait can enjoy the fragrance of coffee and pleasant greenery. Many new landmarks with strong design sense carry the old history and come back into people's eyes. The small section of Suzhou River we have selected was once the dividing line between the prosperous concession and the backward Chinese community, as well as the old Zhabei and old Jing'an before the merger. It is also the section with the most stories and the landmarks along the river that most represent the city's historical changes.
