Turpan Karez Paradise

On the vast Gobi oasis, one can see many raised sand mounds, arranged in an orderly fashion and extending southward. These are the vertical shafts of the Karez wells, beneath which are the underground channels of the Karez. A Karez system is composed of four parts: vertical shafts, underground channels, open channels, and reservoirs. The Karez is an ancient water conservancy project that utilizes local geographical, hydrogeological, and topographical conditions to draw groundwater to the surface without any power.
