Since ancient times, it has been a revered place of worship for students praying for success in examinations. The temple's Tahoto Pagoda, built during the Muromachi period, is a designated cultural property of Kyoto Prefecture, and its rustic and solemn architectural style is worth savoring. The revolving bridge is also quite unique; whenever a boat passes through the canal, the bridge slowly rotates to allow passage, making it a rare sight. Chion-ji Temple is close to the Amanohashidate sightseeing boat pier, making it an excellent starting point for a trip to Amanohashidate. With ancient trees towering within its grounds, one can feel the tranquil and solemn atmosphere of the temple throughout all four seasons.
