The itinerary was smooth and unhurried, and the amphibious bus was super fun! The Hakone Shrine's torii gate on the water and the stunning volcanic landscape of Owakudani were highlights. On the way back, we even got a distant view of Mount Fuji. The Chinese-speaking guide was patient, and there was no forced shopping. The overall experience was fantastic!
The amphibion boat was terrible. 20 mins of sailing at 4 knots (out into the lake a few metres and then back in) loud Japanese PA system talking the ENTIRE time while on a beautiful lake - forget being peaceful! The only positive was the views and the slowness IF you get seasick. Loved that it was just our family in a private car with our cool driver Chen. He was lovely and helpful. The cable car ride is short and the windows are plastic and faded and hard to look through, so no picture opportunities. Overall a nice day, lots of driving, lots of tourists, but in a private car, you can ask them to stop along the way or detour if you wanted.
