Reviews
High-end Vietnamese fine dining in Hanoi's Old Quarter If you are looking for a dinner in Hanoi's Old Quarter that combines local character with exquisite craftsmanship, Red Bean Ma May is a very reliable and outstanding choice. Hidden inside a boutique hotel in an alleyway, stepping inside completely shuts out the clamor of the motorcycles outside. The interior features calm wooden tones and soft lighting, with a spacious layout and moderate table spacing, making it a very suitable and quiet place for a romantic date or a family gathering. In terms of culinary performance, the kitchen team has a very proficient grasp of heat and spices: * Green papaya salad with fresh shrimp: Crispy and refreshing in texture, with a precisely balanced sweet and sour ratio, serving as a very competent appetizer. * Claypot Fish: The fish meat is firm and flavorful, with a sauce carrying a rich caramelized aroma, offering complex layers when paired with white rice. * Grilled pork rice vermicelli (Bun Cha): The pork has just the right amount of charcoal-grilled aroma, the meat is tender and not dry, and the broth is clear, sweet, and not murky. * Slow-simmered beef pho: The broth is clear and profound in flavor, with the natural integration of spices such as black cardamom and star anise, free from any excessive artificial seasoning. * Passion fruit panna cotta: The acidity is bright and effectively cuts through richness, cleanly and neatly wrapping up the meal. In addition, the front-of-house staff is very fluent in English, highly professional regarding allergen warnings and recommendations, and paces the service according to the guests' dining speed without any sense of pressure. Although the prices are higher than typical street food, considering the quality of the ingredients, culinary precision, and comfortable service, the overall experience offers good value for money, making it a restaurant worth revisiting.
During this dining experience in the Hanoi Old Quarter, Red Bean Ma May left a deep and wonderful impression. Located on the relatively quiet Ma May Street amidst the hustle and bustle, the moment you step inside, you are greeted by an interior design that blends modern elegance with traditional Vietnamese charm. Warm yellow lighting paired with comfortable seating creates a sophisticated yet relaxing dining environment, making it an ideal spot to unwind after a day of exploring Hanoi. Regarding the food, classic traditional Vietnamese dishes are meticulously presented with a modern French plating style, striking just the right balance between visual appeal and taste. The appetizers, including the fried spring rolls and fresh spring rolls, feature crispy wrappers and generous fillings, making them very appetizing when paired with the special dipping sauce. For the main courses, the grilled beef and grilled fish are rich in aroma while remaining tender and juicy. The use of herbs and spices is well-layered, preserving the essence of local flavors without feeling overly heavy or greasy. The broth of the traditional pho is clear, naturally sweet, and flavorful, reflecting the considerable effort put into simmering it. Finally, desserts like the banana cake and coconut ice cream have a moderate level of sweetness, bringing a neat and satisfying close to the entire meal. The service is another aspect of Red Bean Ma May worth praising. The staff members are warm, composed, and professional in their manners. Not only do they provide detailed introductions to the ingredients and flavor profiles on the menu, but they also carefully observe the guests' dining pace, maintaining a well-managed rhythm for serving dishes. From the welcoming smile to the inquiry after the meal, professionalism and sincerity are evident everywhere. Overall, whether in terms of ambiance, culinary standards, or service details, Red Bean Ma May performs exceptionally well and is a high-quality restaurant well worth recommending to family and friends.
The food was great and employees are so friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this.
The set meal was amazing, exquisite, and delicious. Booking through Klook meant no waiting. The only downside was that the two tables next to us were really noisy. I suggest booking a later session.
The Vietnamese grilled fish is very fresh and delicious, and the salad dressing is made with passion fruit, which is refreshing.
