I decided to join this plum wine-making workshop because I already love drinking plum wine. The staff were so lovely, friendly, and attentive, and they gave great advice throughout the workshop. I learned about the history and process of making plum wine, different types of plums, and the different kinds of sugar used for pickling. I also got to take home a bottle of plum wine that I made myself ✨ It was such a fun and happy experience. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it 😊💖
The staff is so friendly. They first introduce the plums and let everyone taste and choose their favorite plum flavor before we start making them. They guide us step-by-step, and the shop is clean and bright. The session started right on time, and I am really looking forward to tasting them in a month.
Had such a fun time at the CHOYA umeshu making workshop!! My friends were a bit late but they were super accommodating -- it was so interesting learning about the history of CHOYA and trying the different types of plums and sugars to be used. Sumire was an amazing guide and I had so much fun talking with her!! Will definitely recommend this to others who are looking for a great and unique experience in Kyoto :)
I was lucky that I was the only one there at that time. I'm very grateful to the lady who explained everything so diligently, introducing each different type of plum and sugar. Through the experience, I learned even more about plum wine.
Koki introduced us to the ume culture and led the workshop wonderfully. You get to try everything and make your own Umeshu. We are looking forward to trying the Umeshu at home. Super cool! Highly recommended. 😍
This was a fun experience learning about plum wine, making it and then able to take it home. Who knew there could be so many variations. Would def recommend. our host was very knowledgeable and her English was very good.
Emi was the knowledgeable teacher who led us thru our class during my family trip. We had a mix of Chinese and English speakers and she was able to accommodate that. I learned so much about all the different types of Umes that can go into the umeshu process. This was a awesome experience if you are interested or like umeshu!
loved this experience!!! the staff was so friendly and spoke English and Japanese. the education was insightful and the tastings was so fun and delicious!!!
Choya making experience was interesting and delightful - simple and brief exposure to the different types of ume and sugar. Tried the umes and sugars briefly but wasn’t allowed to try the alcohol with the umes - a little inflexible when we wanted to decrease the alcohol volume as we are not huge drinkers and wasn’t allowed. Very good service by the staff there :)
our instructor Chika was super funny and kind throughout the whole lesson and explanation 🥹♥️♥️ super grateful that she was our instructor for Ume and Umeshu making! she made it very fun and enjoyable 🙏 thank you 🙇♀️🙇♀️
