What to expect
Depart from Zhangye city center and head to Mati Ecological and Cultural Tourism Area. This area integrates natural scenery, cultural landscapes, and ethnic customs. You can visit attractions such as the Thousand Buddha Caves and the Thirty-Three Heavens Grottoes, experiencing the profound history and natural wonders. The tour takes approximately 3 hours.
Around noon, after finishing the Mati Temple tour, enjoy a free lunch. You can choose to taste local specialties near the scenic area.
In the afternoon, proceed to Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park. This area is famous for its uniquely shaped and colorful hills, and it has been the filming location for many TV series, including "Detective Di Renjie." You can stroll through the park, admire the dreamlike vibrant colors, and marvel at the craftsmanship of nature.
In the evening, after finishing the Danxia tour, take a bus back to Zhangye city center. The entire itinerary is compact and fulfilling, allowing you to experience the unique charm of Zhangye's two major famous scenic spots in one day.

Our trip was really great! The driver has been very kind, he didn't speak English but was really helpful and still managed to communicate with us for the best. They picked us up at the hotel, the bus was for 6 people and really comfortable, but we were totally free and independent during our visits. Really recommended!
The excursion is spectacular, both for the temple and for Daxia Park. As for the guide, there simply isn't one; it's a driver who barely speaks English and communicates with foreigners via WeChat. In this area, there aren't many options for English tours, and nothing in Spanish. Inside Danxia Park, the guides only speak Chinese, although there are explanatory signs in English. At the temple, the temple guide only speaks Chinese and didn't bother with us at all. The car and transfer were fine.
Rainbow Danxia is awesome and the whole trip is just fine.
