[World Heritage Site] Shirakawa-go Day Trip | Hida Takayama, Fairytale World Shirakawa-go Gassho Village (Observation Deck Access Available) | Departure from Nagoya

Excellent tour and experience although it did rain all day but still our guide did her best to make it interesting. I really like Shirakawa-go which is Unesco Heritage Site. Nice tradional japanese village with traditional houses in the middle of a valley. Although I didn’t had a chance to get to observation deck, I still manged to climbed halfway overlooking the village. Hida Takayama is also an interesting and historic place. I liked the history and art museum. The food there are great but a bit pricey just like in any other touristic places.

Today's tour group only had 9 people, so the small bus was very comfortable. I chose this itinerary because I didn't particularly want to go to the Takayama morning market, and I wanted to stagger the timing with the general Takayama old town and Shirakawa-go day trip itineraries. This itinerary goes to the observation deck, Shirakawa-go, and Takayama old town first. I personally think that tour guide Lin Hu did a very good job in terms of time management 👍 and he is also a very nice person ~ Highly recommended!

The place is nice and beautiful, but it's a rainy day and we couldn't take a lot of photos. By the time we arrive, it's crowded. Maybe I can repeat it next time if I have a change. The bus conductor is nice to us. He waited all of us in front of the gate of takayama bus entrance.

We enjoyed the tour though didn’t have enough time to explore Takayama. We loved the hida restaurant that Summer (our tour guide) recommended! I’m glad I chose this tour- Shirakawago in the morning because there are fewer people at the picture taking in the observatory than late afternoon.

Great value for the price! Perfect for first-time visitors to Shirakawa-go and Hida, offering a good introduction to these two beautiful and classic Japanese destinations. Note that the Hida Old Town morning market completely closes down by 11:00 AM, so for a more in-depth trip next time, arrive earlier to explore it. You can leisurely stroll through the lively Hida Old Town attractions in about 2 hours, taking your time to eat and enjoy the experience. Shirakawa-go is supposedly beautiful in winter, but be aware that the parking lot needs to be cleared by 5:00 PM. Many people also take the bus to and from the village. Next time, I'll look for a day trip to Shirakawa-go.

The tour is convenient if you want to go to both site without the hassle of commuting and navigating the complicated journey. Its about 2 hours to go there and you will pay almost the same amount in the fare. so best to avail this toir and enjoy the trip. Both site are beautiful.

overall, it was a great tour! on time, and arrived ahead of schedule. Tour guide was also good in explaining the itinerary and what we can do to enjoy both places. highly recommended! 🌟

The meeting point is at the Ministop located behind the Big Camera at Nagoya Station. The Ministop has restrooms available, which is very convenient. This was my first time visiting Hida Takayama and Shirakawa-go, and the tour guide provided a lot of historical and cultural background information, as well as recommendations for delicious food to try. I gained a lot from the trip.

The whole tour group was great. Although there were some itinerary changes, the tour guide, Zosha, was polite and enthusiastically introduced the history and tourist attractions of Shirakawa-go and Takayama. She was also careful to count the number of people before driving, and there were no delays. We were lucky to encounter snowfall, it was a bit cold but the trip was very enjoyable.

Shirakawa-go and its Gassho-zukuri village are beautiful, but one regret is that the commercial atmosphere is too strong, overshadowing the cultural essence. It's quite similar to visiting famous historical sites in China! It's a real shame!
