Sovereign Hill A Touch Of Gold Ballarat Tour

Really loved this tour!! So worthwhile and definitely one of the highlights of our trip! Our Klook driver was great and gave us commentary on the different landmarks and buildings along the way. We stopped at Pipers by the Lake for breakfast, which was delightful! The place was so pretty, surrounded by a beautiful garden. From there, it was only a 10-minute drive to Sovereign Hill. Our driver introduced us to our wonderful guide, Gary, who brought us around and made sure we caught the various performances and demonstrations. He was incredibly informative, helped us take lots of photos, and made the experience even more enjoyable. Sovereign Hill was SO FUN! It genuinely felt like stepping back in time. Even my mum and son, who get bored easily, had so much fun! 😂 We loved the gold panning, candy-making and gold bar demonstrations, as well as the underground mine tour. We only wished we had another 1.5 hours to explore! Absolutely loved it and would definitely recommend this tour! ❤️

Since this activity is relatively unpopular, there were not many participants, about 10 group members. The tour guide was kind and friendly. Although we were just visiting a theme park, I could see that he and the park staff took us to see the most selected and necessary facilities, such as gold panning, gold casting demonstrations, mining trains, etc. The actors in the park were also very involved in their roles, taking everyone into the gold rush era. They also warmly entertained us and sent us back to the tour bus, so we had a pleasant day.

Such a fun and memorable experience! Our Explore Australia guide was very friendly and shared interesting stories about Ballarat’s history along the way. We stopped briefly by a beautiful lake in Ballarat, where there’s a café for breakfast, hot chocolate, or coffee, then continued to Sovereign Hill, only about 10 minutes away. At Sovereign Hill, our guide was funny and engaging, and my son absolutely loved it! We learned about gold processing and even tried gold panning ourselves — and actually found some tiny gold flakes! The highlight was definitely the underground mine train. It was completely dark and so exciting, and we even got to see real gold embedded in the mine walls. Such a great experience, especially with kids. Fun, interactive, and full of fascinating history. Definitely worth trying!

The overall activity is very good 👍🏻 The whole Sovereign Hill really seems to have returned to ancient times. There are many NPCs wearing the costumes of that time, explaining the lives of people at that time. You can experience the process of gold panning and understand how people made sugar and gold bars at that time. It is worth a visit. The only regret I had about the entire event was that there wasn’t enough time for me to take black and white salon photos wearing period costumes. The tour guide didn't tell us early on that it would take an hour to get the finished photo. Therefore, when I found a store that did the photo shoot, I had no more than half an hour to leave the park and there was no time to wait for the finished product. I wish the tour guide could have told us in advance that pretending would take time, and if we needed photos, he could have taken us there early in the morning, so that this situation would not have happened.

A very enjoyable trip, Mark is a friendly and knowledgeable tour guide, he teaches us gold panning skills and he tells us very much about the history of that area during the trip. Sonce gold panning is really interesting, I definitely recommend this activity as one of must try items in Melbourne.

We had a fantastic day at Sovereign Hill! The tour was very well organised, and everything ran smoothly from pickup to drop-off. There was so much to see and do, including gold panning, watching the blacksmith demonstrations, exploring the old streets, and learning about Australia's gold rush history. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and brought the town to life with their performances. It felt like stepping back in time. The free time was just right to explore at our own pace and take plenty of photos. This experience was enjoyable for both adults and children, making it a perfect family day trip from Melbourne. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Victoria. Great value for money and unforgettable memories!

The service of the driver guides Darren and Lachie was very good and they were very enthusiastic to assist us. The experience was perfect and worth recommending to everyone. The gold panning and mining experience was also very good.

A very interesting journey! In just 1.5 hours, you're transported from modern times back to the old mining era. The environment is beautiful, and each area has staff dressed in period costumes. They are all very friendly and happy to take photos with you. The restaurant food was surprisingly delicious and unique; I highly recommend trying it.
