What to expect
Built by Terasawa Shima-no-kami Hirotaka, a retainer of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, over seven years starting in 1602, it is said that materials from the ruins of Nagoya Castle were used in its construction. The castle, along with its surrounding sandy beach and pine grove, resembles a crane spreading its wings, which has earned it the nickname "Dancing Crane Castle"
The castle was home to several feudal lords from various clans, including Terasawa, Okubo, Matsudaira, Doi, Mizuno, and Ogasawara. Initially, Karatsu Castle did not have a tenshukaku (main keep), but it was added in 1966 as a cultural and tourism facility
Inside the tenshukaku is a local history museum that showcases materials from the Karatsu Domain and exhibits such as Karatsu ware pottery, offering visitors a glimpse into the region's history
From the tenshukaku, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Genkai Sea, Iki Island, Nijinomatsubara (a scenic pine forest), Matsura Bridge, and the old town of Karatsu

We visited to see Sakura but on the day was snowing so there was no chances to see. At least there was one beautiful tree with flowers so I could still take nice photos with the castle. I think it will be so beautiful there once Sakura blooms. 🌸
🏯 Karatsu Castle: Explore history and beautiful scenery Karatsu Castle, also known as Maizuru Castle, was built in 1602 and is located on the shore of Karatsu Bay, with a superior geographical location. There is an observation deck in the city, which overlooks the city of Karatsu and the magnificent sea view. In spring, the cherry blossoms around the castle are in full bloom, making it a popular spot for flower viewing. In addition, the museums in the city display a wealth of historical materials and artifacts, allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of Karatsu's history and culture.
Karatsu Castle is very beautiful. The wisteria is in full bloom at the end of April. The elevator costs money. The toilet is clean and bright. The view from the top floor is very windy and beautiful.
Karatsu Castle is a great place to read about the history of Toyotomi Hideyoshi in Japan. If the elders are unable to walk up the stairs to Karatsu Castle, they can take the elevator directly into the castle and then go up to the castle tower.
The scenery from the observatory is beautiful. There are beautiful maple leaves along the way. You can enter directly by scanning the QR code. However, the traffic is only limited to buses and there are not many buses. Please pay attention to the time.
Amazing view from the castle top! Unique castle that uses the ocean as a natural moat for the castle defence, highly recommended!
It’s really convenient, buy and use now! It’s cheaper than Japanese yen! It's worth it

I love Karatsu Castle so much. The ocean is so clean and the best thing is that you can go outside from the top of the castle tower.
