Sapporo Wagashi Sweets Making
- Make your own traditional confectionery called nerikiri
- Learn Japanese cuisine with Yuki, a professional instructor featured on TV
- Experience Japan’s rich food culture firsthand
What to expect
Learn the over 1,000-year-old art of Japanese sweets-making in Sapporo from Yuki, a skilled instructor who studied under a Japanese chef who once served meals to members of the Imperial Household. Upon arrival at her welcoming studio, enjoy green tea or another drink as you settle in and hear a brief introduction to nerikiri—delicate, hand-shaped confections made from chewy rice dough and sweet white bean paste. With Yuki’s guidance, create four beautiful pieces of nerikiri, learning authentic techniques passed down through generations. When your sweets are ready, relax and savor them with your host in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Or, you can also take home your handmade creations, along with the dough recipe if requested, so you can recreate the experience wherever you are.

This was such an amazing experience ! The best I’ve had since arriving in Japan! Yuki is very nice and welcoming, and she has the cutest cat ever 🥹. We talked a lot and I got to know her - I had a lot of fun making the Wagashi Sweets with her (she’s the best sensei you’ll find). She spoke English pretty well and we didn’t have any trouble understanding each other ! Mine didn’t turn out that great but I was so happy with them and they tasted amazing ! I don’t usually write comments on Klook but if I could I’d rate her a 11/10. I’m really thankful to her for welcoming me into her home (even when I was late) and taking the time to teach me and learn to know me better. I’ll for sure be back !
Awesome experience with a thoughtful instructor! She created a pleasant environment and patiently guided us through the process. The activity is quite calming and therapeutic.
So glad we got to book a private wagashi class with Yuki! The whole experience was first class! She reached out to us after booking and had great communication before, the day of, and even followed up after. She was kind enough to offer pick-up/drop-off at the nearby train station. She is such a lovely person. We had great conversations in English. If you are not comfortable speaking Japanese or are not great at food art, no worries! The class is taught in English and she is very patient. It was easy to follow along and she was very prepared and provided all the supplies. She is a great teacher with much experience. She provided take-home recipes and instructions and also recommended a specialty shop to pick up ingredients that might not be readily available back home. The wagashi we made we both cute and delicious! She made us feel so comfortable and welcome. We highly recommend Yuki for any activity, and hopefully get to participate in more of her classes in the future. Mahalo Yuki!
Such a lovely wagashi class. Beautiful craftsmanship and a very peaceful atmosphere. The host was warm, friendly, and very helpful throughout the session. Making wagashi by hand really makes you appreciate the artistry behind each piece. Highly recommend if you’re curious about Japanese culture and traditional sweets.
My kids enjoyed the wagashi workshop. It's an immersive experience and Yuki's house is beautiful in a calm quiet area. She is patient with the children and we made beautiful wagashi
Delightful way to experience a bit of Japanese culture with a local who taught us how to make beautiful and delicate treats in her home. My son and I enjoyed it thoroughly!
