Booked via Hotels.com as reserve and pay on arrival. A staff member called me on the day around 10.30am and said I had to settle the £215 bill within 30 minutes or my room would be cancelled, no explanation. I challenged and asked to speak to someone senior, which I did. They said that they had tried to take payment that morning and the payment failed. On closer inspection there were no issues with the payment method I’d set up with Hotels.com so it appears to be a business to business issues and not a customer one. 20 minutes had passed and I still hadn’t received the payment link, I called back and they apologised and sent it. On arrival the room was tiny, the bathroom was worn and even though there were some nice touches, the room itself was only suitable for one person. Limescale and rust from the iron ruined my trousers which I specially brought for my visit to the west end. Lastly the hotel took a holder’s fee of £50 on check in but this was never explained. Instead I had to call the hotel a week afterwards to ask why £50 was pending in my bank. It may be written in small print somewhere but I think hotel staff have a responsibility to fully explain what taking my bank details would be used for.

GoodSolo stay
The air conditioning in my room was quite loud and the soap holder in the shower was hanging off its fittings. The staff were lovely and helpful though, but overall I expected a bit more given the hotel's rating.

Clean room and the decor was nice however it was a little small, the elevator was very annoying, slow and the screen showed the incorrect floor. The staff was helpful but also a little slow.
The room overall had a comfortable bed and very nice bedding. However the air conditioning was quite poor, it didn’t feel very powerful at all, the shower head was also a little grimy and stuck to the wall which is a little annoying, but I think the positives far outweighed the negatives and for £185 for the night I’d definitely stay again

Clean room and nice hotel. One of the rooms A/C struggled and wasn't as good as the other rooms we'd booked. Location and hotel quality we otherwise excellent though.
