We went end of Oct so it was misty and rainy which can be somewhat troublesome, it's 12 degrees so do wear thicker clothing! Because it was so misty it felt like we were in a Japanese mountain from the movie, we managed to go to the hot spring (around 25-30mins) + cook corn and eggs! recommend to bring along swimming cap, slippers and swimwear for the hot spring! also would be good to bring your own bread to go along with the corn and egg although they do sell Ba Zhang (and some basic burger buns over there). our driver qisong is very friendly and helpful with excellent driving skills! oh I really liked the bong bong train too! do note for the bong bong you'll have to go up the staircase - saw some other older visitors struggling but manage to climb it might not be suitable for people with difficulty climbing

Tickets for the Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area cost NT$200 if purchased on-site, so it's definitely more cost-effective to buy them in advance! We highly recommend purchasing your tickets beforehand.

Beautiful scenery, lush greenery! Many trails are easy to walk. Be sure to enter the park early to buy tickets for the "Bung Bung Train" as they sell out quickly. The maple leaves will be even more beautiful in autumn.

The weather was great when I started my hike, but I forgot how quickly things change in the mountains. Remember to bring a lightweight raincoat no matter the weather. The hemlock forest was beautiful, but the rain got heavy, and the mud made the second half of the trail too difficult, so I had to turn back. I'll try again next time.

Experience: The drive from the ticket booth at the Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area entrance to Taipingshan Villa is 22km and takes approximately 40 minutes, so be sure to plan your time accordingly. After 3 PM, heavy fog can reduce visibility to near zero, forcing you to drive slowly at 25 km/h, guided only by the center line. The fog usually dissipates near the midway service station. Be extra cautious when driving, as there are seven consecutive hairpin turns along the way.

Ticketing was fast, and we smoothly entered the park with 6 people in 2 cars. The Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area is huge. There's a free shuttle bus running between Taipingshan Villa, the parking lot, and the entrance to the Jianqing Historic Trail, which is very convenient and worth taking advantage of!
