The Patrizia was very friendly and the food was fantastic. Beautiful view of Lake Como. We were late and our hosts and the guests were very gracious. Transportation to the home was difficult because it is was in a small village up the hill, outside of Bellano in the Verenna area with very limited public transportation. Especially note the address of the home and make early plans accordingly.

Our guide, Sarah, was very informative and friendly. She was very accommodating of the tour group and answered questions patiently. Our driver, Donato, was an expert driver. He can get past any tight curve or alley without a scratch! Quick, easy and hassle-free booking. Started at 8am, and finished by 6:20pm. Took a private boat around Lake Como, a public ferry to go to Bellagio and the bus/transport to Como City proper. Had ample time to walk around Bellagio and Como City. Though I would prefer to have a longer time for lunch at Bellagio because most of the restaurants open at 12nn, we arrived at 11am and stayed only until 1pm. Overall a good experience and would recommend the tour to anyone!

Lake Como's Best Lakeside Towns

One of the most charming aspects of Lake Como is its array of lakeside towns, each offering a unique atmosphere.

1. Como (Southern End)

Located at the southern end of the lake, Como is the largest town and a hub of activity. It offers a compelling mix of historic architecture, shopping streets, lively dining, and excellent transport connections to Milan and beyond. Don't miss Villa Olmo, the Gothic cathedral, and the scenic funicular to Brunate for panoramic views.

2. Bellagio

Often referred to as the "Pearl of the Lake," Bellagio sits at the fork where the lake splits into two branches. Its elegant cobbled lanes, high-end boutiques, lush gardens, and stunning promenades make it one of the most romantic and photogenic towns in all of Lago di Como.

3. Menaggio (Western Shore)

Set on the western shore, Menaggio has a relaxed, friendly vibe that appeals to families and nature lovers. With a pleasant lakefront promenade, easy ferry access, and nearby hiking trails into the surrounding hills, it's a great base for both leisure and exploration.

4. Varenna (Eastern Shore)

Charming and less touristy than Bellagio, Varenna lies on the eastern shore and boasts narrow lanes, colorful buildings, and peaceful lake views. It's ideal for a romantic getaway, especially with attractions like Villa Monastero and the beautiful Lovers' Walk along the shoreline.

5. Cernobbio

Just north of Como on the west side, Cernobbio is known for its refined atmosphere and is home to the world-famous Villa d'Este, a luxury hotel that has hosted celebrities, royals, and dignitaries. Its waterfront promenade and stylish cafes make it a sophisticated stop on any itinerary.

6. Tremezzo

Situated near Menaggio, Tremezzo is most famous for the spectacular Villa Carlotta, which features impressive gardens and neoclassical art. The town also offers lovely scenic paths along the lake, elegant villas, and views across to Bellagio.

  • When to Go: Late May - June and September are ideal, lakeside townsare lively, but summer crowds are just beginning or winding down.
