This Chengdu itinerary has it all — from iconic landmarks to underrated local gems and things you must do — so you can soak up the best of the city, whether you’re a first-timer or already planning your next trip back.

Day 1: Pandas & Ancient Wonders

    Dujiangyan City (都江堰市)

SG - The Ultimate 7D6N Chengdu Itinerary for First-Timers
Start your Chengdu adventure with a dose of history at Dujiangyan, the 2,000-year-old irrigation marvel that still keeps the region lush and thriving today. Wander through its scenic canals, temples, and bridges, and soak up the ancient charm.
SG - The Ultimate 7D6N Chengdu Itinerary for First-Timers
Don’t miss the iconic South Bridge (南桥蓝眼泪), a historical landmark celebrated as the "First Bridge of Chengdu" after more than a century of renovations and reconstructions.

    Panda Valley (熊猫谷)

SG - The Ultimate 7D6N Chengdu Itinerary for First-Timers
After soaking up the ancient charm, head to Panda Valley for unforgettable encounters with playful cubs and gentle giants. Get up close with more than 30 giant pandas 🐼 and explore the free-range red panda area, where their playful antics are pure cuteness overload. Managed by the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Panda Valley combines semi-wild habitats with fortress-style enclosures to help giant pandas adapt for eventual release into the wild. This pioneering “soft release program” gives visitors a rare chance to see these amazing creatures in a more natural, relaxed setting.
Alternatively, you can also choose to visit the world-renowned Chengdu Giant Panda Base for a valuable experience to get close to the national treasure panda "滚滚 or 花花". If you haven't been to a Panda base before, here are some tips to make the best of your time!

    Chengdu Giant Panda Base Tips

    1. Don't go on Monday
      • It's HuaHua's (Chengdu's star!) rest day – Everyone who visits the Giant Panda Base will definitely make time for her and you should too! (P.s. she's so famous that some museums even close on the same day!)
    2. Plan your route beforehand
      • The entire park is really really HUGE so we highly recommend you to do some research before you go to maximize your time! They also have some recommended routes if you wish to follow.
    3. Bring umbrella
      • The whole area is largely open-air so you should definitely bring along an umbrella or poncho just in case it rains. FYI it rained on the day we went, so we had to hide out in the shelters for a bit 🥲
    4. Wear good shoes
      • Again, the park is really BIG so it would be good to have proper footwear on. Especially during winter when it can get extra slippery!
    5. Tram services available (Not free though!)
      • Brings you around the park if you're not keen on walking too far! Also especially helpful when traveling with kids or elderly.
    6. Bring snacks & water
      • There are food available, but only at certain main sections of the park. Majority of the park has no food/ water, so remember to bring them to replenish your energy as you go!

    Day 2: History Meets Hip

SG - The Ultimate 7D6N Chengdu Itinerary for First-Timers

It’s the perfect way to wrap up your day — great food, vibrant culture, and a truly unforgettable Chengdu vibe.
    Klook Tip:
    • Arrive on time (or early!) for makeup appointments — being over 10 mins late may forfeit your slot.
    • If you’ve only reserved a seat (no makeup service), arrive at least 30 mins early to exchange your ticket.
    • Menu changes daily; dishes served may differ from photos.

    Day 3: Huanglong Highlights

Kick off the morning with a 1hr 40min high-speed rail ride from Chengdudong Station to Huanglongjiuzhai, where stunning alpine scenery awaits.

Why travel around China via train instead?

The valley is also home to rare wildlife and Tibetan villages, offering a perfect mix of natural beauty and cultural charm.

    Jiuzhaigou Tips

    1. BRING A CAMERA ALONG (or just use your phone)
      • The entire park is so gorgeous that you'll be snapping photos away the whole time. And don't worry if you don't have a professional camera because you're guaranteed to walk away with good photos no matter the angle.
    2. Wear good shoes
      • ITS HUGE = lots of walking so we definitely recommend wearing shoes you can walk for long periods in.
    3. There's shuttle services available (FREE!!)
      • Can't walk far? No worries! There's a shuttle service that brings you around the ENTIRE park from top to bottom. Best part? It's FREE!
    4. Bring snacks & water (And lunch if you can!)
      • ESSENTIAL. Because it's a national park, there's minimal food and water around the area. Especially MEALS. So be prepared to skip lunch or pack your own.
    5. Don't be SHY
      • If you want to get your photos, you got to force your way in. It's super, super crowded, so everyone is fighting for the same photo spot. Now's not the time to be shy alright!
    6. Go early/ Book a charter
      • It'll save your life, unless you plan to go there yourself. Traveling there is honestly very, very tiring as a one-way trip from Chengdu took us 3.5hrs already.
      • We highly recommend you to book a one-day tour so you can relax without the hassle!
    7. Do an overnight trip if you have time to spare
      • If you have time, go for 2 days so you don't have to rush!
      • The park is also extremely big and we found it hard to explore within 6hrs, so 2 days would definitely be more comfortable especially if you're traveling with your family.

    Kuanzhai Alley (宽窄巷子)

SG - The Ultimate 7D6N Chengdu Itinerary for First-Timers
Start your morning at Kuanzhai Alley (Wide and Narrow Alleys) — one of Chengdu’s most iconic old streets. This charming district blends Qing Dynasty architecture with modern cafés, artisan shops, and teahouses.
SG - The Ultimate 7D6N Chengdu Itinerary for First-Timers
Take a leisurely stroll through its cobblestone lanes, sip a cup of traditional jasmine tea, and browse for unique souvenirs that capture the city’s timeless spirit.
Klook Tip: we highly recommend going early as the shops start closing at around 9-10pm. And while it’s prettier at night with the red lanterns lighting up, be prepared to brace the crowds! If you don’t like crowds, a short cab ride away will bring you to Jinli street. It’s similar to Kuanzhai Alley, but known more for its architecture.

More places to shop in Chengdu:

    1. Chunxi Road (IFS and Taikoo Li)
    • Chengdu's Orchard Road!
    • Chunxi Road has very bougee malls, think Marina Bay Sands and ION Orchard, with lots of global brands. You can also find local fashion, streetfood, and souvenir shops everywhere.
    • We highly recommend spending more time at Taikoo Li for its unique layout and atmosphere, but definitely don’t miss the famous climbing panda outside IFS.
    • Basically, if you need a one-stop shop for all your shopping needs, this is it.
    2. Fanghua Street (A hidden gem!)
    • About a 10min drive from Jinli Street, Fanghua Street is FOR. THE. GRAM.
    • It’s for the younger crowd, full of vintage shops, cafes and photo spots. Please free up your memory space because you'll be taking a TON of photos here!
    3. COSMO
    • COSMO is where the young milliennials and Gen Zs shop in Chengdu!
    • The mall basically blends interactive art installations with more local streetwear designs.
    • Best place for pics or just for the vibes
    • Pro-Tip: Check out the food hall at the top level for the best food court experience!
    4. Luhu CPI (麓湖CPI)
    • It’s a modern, scenic, and pet-friendly lifestyle hub situated near Tianfu New Area.
    • Known for its naturesque space, cafes and local brand boutique stores.
    • Perfect for a slower day out of the bustling city areas.
    • Our favourite? Risocial - a tea lounge with a lake-view that actually turns into a perfume store at the back!
    5. SKP Chengdu
    • This mall is super bougie, almost like Takayshimaya, with many global high-end brands.
    • It’s quieter and less chaotic, but what makes this stand out is the hidden bamboo structures located nearby (you must check it out!)
    • P.S. it even lights up at night around 730pm-9pm with the most beautiful lights (don't miss it!)
    • Make sure to bring an umbrella or poncho because you will get wet!
