When I first started planning a trip to Guangzhou, I quickly realised that choosing a hotel wasn't as simple as picking the one with the nicest room.
Guangzhou is huge. The city stretches across different neighbourhoods, and where you stay can completely change the kind of trip you'll have. Want to wake up steps from Beijing Road's food and shopping? There's a hotel for that. Planning to spend your days at Chimelong? Stay right inside the resort. Prefer sleek malls, skyscrapers and easy metro connections? Tianhe is probably more your speed.
After narrowing down the options, I've put together my Klook-recommended Guangzhou hotels across the city's most convenient areas. These are the stays I'd have on my shortlist, whether I'm visiting for the first time, travelling with family, shopping till I drop, or simply looking for a comfortable base to explore the city.
Here's where I'd stay in Guangzhou — and why.
📍 Yuexiu & Beijing Road: Best for First-Timers, Food & Sightseeing
If you're visiting Guangzhou for the first time, Yuexiu is probably the area I'd look at first.
This is where you'll find the older, more atmospheric side of Guangzhou, with easy access to Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, restaurants, shopping and plenty of the city's historic sights. It's also a great area to stay if you want to step outside your hotel and immediately feel like you're in the middle of Guangzhou life.
1. Mercure Hotel Guangzhou Beijing Road Pedestrian Street
My pick for: First-time visitors and foodies
If I wanted to stay right in the middle of the action without going for an ultra-luxury hotel, Mercure Guangzhou Yuexiu Beijing Road would be one of my first picks.
The hotel is located in the core area of Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, surrounded by restaurants and attractions. It has 268 rooms, plus a restaurant, fitness centre, laundry room and lobby bar.
What I love about this location is how little planning you need to do. Step out of the hotel and you're already close to one of Guangzhou's busiest pedestrian streets, so you can spend your day sightseeing and shopping, then wander out again at night when you're hungry.
If your ideal Guangzhou trip involves lots of food, spontaneous snack stops and shopping until your feet hurt, this is where I'd start.
Best for: First-time visitors, foodies, couples and travellers who want to be close to Beijing Road.
2. Hotel Landmark Canton
My pick for: Pearl River views + easy access to Beijing Road
For something a little different, I'd also put Hotel Landmark Canton on my list.
Located at Haizhu Square on the banks of the Pearl River, the hotel is just a short walk from Haizhu Square Metro Station, where Lines 2 and 6 meet. That makes it particularly convenient if you want to explore different parts of Guangzhou without constantly relying on taxis.
The location is the biggest draw for me. You're close enough to walk to the Beijing Road shopping area, while the Pearl River is right outside. If you can, I'd go for a room with a river view — the hotel also has a 39th-floor restaurant with panoramic views over the Pearl River. It also has an indoor swimming pool, gym and multiple dining options, so you can easily have a slower evening at the hotel after a full day of exploring.
Best for: First-time visitors, families, sightseeing and travellers who want river views.
3. Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Centre by IHG
My pick for: A full-service city stay
If I want something a little more polished, Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Centre is the Yuexiu hotel I'd consider.
Located on Huanshi East Road in the heart of Guangzhou's commercial and shopping district, the hotel has 465 rooms and suites, several restaurants, a lobby lounge, outdoor swimming pool, spa and sauna. It's also around 200 metres from the Taojin or Xiaobei Metro stations, which is a big plus when you're planning to explore beyond Yuexiu.
This is the kind of hotel I'd choose when I want to spend my days exploring Guangzhou but still have somewhere comfortable and full-service to return to at night.
Best for: Couples, families, business travellers and anyone who likes having plenty of hotel facilities.
4. The Garden Hotel Guangzhou
My pick for: Classic Guangzhou luxury
If I wanted a more classic hotel experience, The Garden Hotel Guangzhou would definitely make the shortlist. Located on Huanshi East Road, this 30-storey property combines modern architecture with traditional Chinese-inspired décor. It's also particularly appealing for food lovers, with 14 dining venues serving Cantonese, Sichuan, French and Italian cuisine.
There's plenty to do without even leaving the property, including an outdoor pool, health club and sports facilities. For me, this is less of a "I'm only here to sleep" hotel and more of a stay-and-enjoy-the-hotel kind of choice.
Best for: Couples, food lovers and travellers looking for a more traditional luxury experience.
📍 Panyu: Stay Here If Chimelong Is Your Main Event
1. Chimelong Hotel Guangzhou
My pick for: Families and theme-park lovers
If Chimelong Safari Park, Chimelong Paradise, Chimelong Water Park or the Chimelong International Circus is on your itinerary, I'd make life easy and stay at Chimelong Hotel Guangzhou.
The hotel is located inside Chimelong Tourist Resort, putting you right next to several of the resort's major attractions. This is one of those occasions where I think location beats everything else. After spending an entire day walking around a huge theme park or safari park, the last thing I'd want is another long journey across Guangzhou.
The hotel itself has a fun resort feel, with Aboriginal-inspired design, natural colours and textures. If you're travelling with kids, I'd seriously consider staying here for the convenience alone.
Best for: Families, theme-park fans and anyone planning multiple Chimelong attractions.
📍 Tianhe & Zhujiang New Town: Best for Shopping, Modern Guangzhou & Easy Transport
If Yuexiu represents the older, more traditional side of Guangzhou, Tianhe feels like a completely different city.
Think towering skyscrapers, huge shopping malls, modern restaurants and plenty of metro connections. This is where I'd stay if shopping is high on my itinerary, or if I prefer a more modern city atmosphere.
1. Guangzhou Atour Hotel (Zhujiang New Town Wuyangcun Subway Station)
My pick for: A convenient, modern base
For a comfortable stay in Zhujiang New Town without going all-out on luxury, I'd look at Guangzhou Atour Hotel near Wuyangcun. The hotel is around 500 metres from both Wuyangcun Station and Zhujiang New Town Station, making it a convenient base for exploring the area. Guangzhou Opera House, Flower City Square and Canton Tower are also within easy reach.
The hotel has 119 rooms, as well as a restaurant, café, bar, fitness centre and kid-friendly facilities. I particularly like this option for travellers who want to spend most of their time out exploring. It's modern, practical and well connected without feeling like you're staying in the middle of a giant commercial complex.
Best for: Couples, solo travellers and families looking for convenience.
2. Atour Hotel Taikoo Hui, Zhujiang New Town, Guangzhou
My pick for: Shopping and mall-hopping
If shopping is one of the main reasons I'm visiting Guangzhou, this is probably the Atour I'd choose. Atour Hotel Taikoo Hui is on Tianhe East Road and around a five-minute walk from Shipaiqiao Station. It's also close to Guangzhou East Railway Station, making it convenient for travellers arriving by train.
The hotel has 174 rooms, plus a restaurant, fitness centre, luggage storage and business facilities. Room options also include larger family and city-view rooms.
The biggest selling point for me is the location. You're in one of Guangzhou's major shopping areas, so it's easy to go from shopping → food → hotel → repeat without spending half your day commuting.
Best for: Shoppers, couples, families and business travellers.
3. Hilton Guangzhou Tianhe
My pick for: A classic full-service international hotel
If I'm travelling with family or simply prefer the familiarity of an international hotel brand, Hilton Guangzhou Tianhe would be one of my top Tianhe options.
The hotel is located in Tianhe's business district and is around two kilometres from Guangzhou East Railway Station. It also offers access to the Tianhe CBD and, during Canton Fair periods, transportation to the Canton Fair Complex.
There's also a sixth-floor pool, spa, fitness centre, restaurant and other full-service facilities, making it a good choice if I want a hotel where I can slow down between sightseeing days. I'd especially consider this if I'm combining a leisure trip with some business time, or if I simply don't want to compromise on hotel amenities.
Best for: Families, business travellers, couples and international hotel loyalists.
4. Hilton Garden Inn Guangzhou Tianhe
My pick for: A comfortable Tianhe base
For something a little more straightforward, Hilton Garden Inn Guangzhou Tianhe is another option I'd keep in mind. Located on North Guangzhou Avenue, the hotel is within a few kilometres of Guangzhou Zoo and Guangzhou Sport University, while Baiyun Mountain, historical attractions and shopping centres are also nearby.
I like this as an option for travellers who want the familiarity of a Hilton property without necessarily needing a full luxury hotel. It's a comfortable base for exploring Tianhe and beyond, especially if you'll be spending most of your day outside.
Best for: Families, business travellers and anyone looking for a dependable international hotel.

My Tips for Choosing Where to Stay in Guangzhou
The biggest lesson I'd take away from planning a Guangzhou trip? Don't choose your hotel based on price alone. Choose it based on your itinerary. Guangzhou is enormous, so staying closer to the places you actually want to visit can save you a surprising amount of time.
- If it's your first trip, I'd stay around Beijing Road or Haizhu Square for easy access to food, shopping and sightseeing.
- If you're planning a shopping-heavy trip, Tianhe is my pick. You'll be close to major malls and have plenty of metro connections.
- Travelling with kids and heading to Chimelong? Stay at Chimelong Hotel and save yourself the commute.
And whatever area you choose, I'd prioritise a hotel that's close to a metro station. Guangzhou's metro network makes getting around the city significantly easier, and several of the hotels above are within walking distance of major stations.
