Reviews summaryI goth the North Kyushu for 5 days and I can say I got my money’s worth (and more)! The roundtrip to Nagasaki alone via Limited Express + Shinkansen is almost 3/4 the amount of the ticket. I also got 6 free reservations, which would cost 1,000 or so per trip. The only additional fee I paid is for the Yufuin No Mori since I had to reserve it weeks before my trip. I got to explore Yufuin, Kumamoto, Tosu, Nagasaki + commuting around Fukuoka using JR.
Had an amazing experience using the JR Kyushu Rail Pass that I booked here! It made traveling around Kyushu so convenient, with unlimited rides on major trains including scenic routes like the Yufuin no Mori Train. The booking process was smooth, and redeeming the pass in Japan was quick and hassle-free. It’s a great value for money, especially if you plan to explore multiple cities without worrying about individual ticket costs. Highly recommend this for anyone visiting Kyushu who wants a seamless and enjoyable travel experience! 🚞⭐️
I feel this pass offers excellent value for money. We used it to book trips from Hakata Station to Kumamoto, then to Kagoshima, then to ride the Ibusuki no Tamatebako train, back to Hakata, and finally to Saga and Takeo Onsen. The only regret was that the Aso Boy! train was suspended that day due to a typhoon. However, we booked the Ibusuki no Tamatebako a day in advance and managed to get window seats, which was a wonderful surprise! We were very happy. Redemption Guide: Make sure to plan your itinerary in advance and redeem all your tickets at once, as the ticket counter can get very crowded with long queues.
For travelers planning to explore multiple cities in Kyushu, purchasing a JR PASS is definitely a smart choice, given the extensive and well-connected railway network in the Kyushu region. This pass not only significantly reduces transportation costs, saving a considerable amount compared to buying individual tickets, making it a super cost-effective option. What's even better is that JR PASS holders can also reserve seats on various unique sightseeing trains for free, such as the Yufuin no Mori and Aso Boy, adding more fun and memories to the journey. This tourist-friendly design fully demonstrates the thoughtful service of the Kyushu railway system. It is highly recommended that friends traveling to Kyushu make good use of the JR PASS, which not only saves money and time but also allows you to deeply experience the charm of Kyushu's railway culture.
Klook offers the best prices. If you want to experience the charm of the Northern Kyushu region, I recommend taking the JR. I bought a three-day JR pass and visited Kokura, Mojiko, and Kumamoto. I highly recommend Kokura Castle; although it's a reconstructed castle, it offers many interactive activities for visitors. You can also try on kimonos for free and take photos, or experience horseback archery—it's definitely worth a visit. If you get off at Kokura, you must try the chicken udon noodles at the standing noodle shop on the Kitakyushu Station platform, which has a long history; it's very affordable and delicious! Mojiko is a beautiful harbor with a European flair, perfect for exploring various historic buildings and taking photos. Curry is a famous local dish there. Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan's three great castles, has several centuries of history and is a reconstructed castle with significant historical value. The castle's main color is black, and its appearance resembles a samurai, giving it a majestic presence. I suggest taking the tram to Kumamoto Castle to experience the local culture and daily life.
This pass is worth it. The included shinkansen routes enabled us to cover large distances at a much shorter time with no extra cost- that we were able to enjoy our ten days in kyushu. we saw most of what we wanted to see from the saugarai futamigaura tori gate, yufuin, beppu hells, miyazaki, aoshima devil’s washboard, Udo jingo shrine, sunmese nichinan moai statues, takachiho gorge, and huis ten bosch. ( aim to see only 1 key thing per day and enjoy the rest of the day exploring the area- it eliminates stress and helps add to the experience by coming across personal discoveries/ treasures. going to come back again next year. 😄❣️ pass area coverage: All Kyushu
The 3-Day JR Kyushu Rail Pass was an absolute game-changer for my trip! It made traveling between cities like Fukuoka, Nagasaki, and Kumamoto incredibly easy and convenient. Being able to ride the Limited Express trains and Shinkansen without worrying about individual tickets saved me both time and money. Redemption at the JR counter was a breeze, and it gave me the freedom to explore multiple prefectures effortlessly. Perfect if you plan to cover a lot of ground in a short time. Highly recommended
I thought I wouldn't be able to reserve the Yufuin no Mori train if I waited to pick up the rail pass in Japan, but it turned out that the Kyushu Odan train from Kumamoto to Oita was sold out instead. I guess it was because I traveled on a weekday, so my luck was still pretty good. This trip, I got to experience the 700 and 800 series Shinkansen trains, the Sonic 883, and the Yufuin no Mori, which was very worthwhile.
Higly recommended to those who plan to visit North Kyushu area city, save alot of money in transportation and time to purchase ticket, unlimited travel for JR train and free for seat reservation, unless you want to pre book via JR website. overall very good experience. thumb up
The pass is definitely worth the value if you are taking JR often, especially for long distance journey! Very convenient and just redeem the ticket at the vending machine inside the JR centre and can also have 6 quotas for choosing designated seats! Highly recommended
