Biwako Hakodateyama Ski Resort -Ski Above Japan's Largest Lake
Few ski runs come with a view like this. At Biwako Hakodateyama, one of Kansai’s leading ski resorts, every descent overlooks Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake, from 690 meters above. An 8-person gondola takes you from the base straight to the slopes in 8 minutes, with lake views the whole way up. Gentle beginner slopes and structured lessons welcome complete first-timers, backed by the quality snow Shiga locals have trusted for generations.
Families love it too: the Kids Park’s moving walkway means sledding and snow play all day, no uphill walking. Renewed in 2020 and open December through mid-March, Hakodateyama is the easiest ski day trip from Osaka.

Hakodateyama Ski Resort offers a relaxed skiing experience with scenic views of the city and ocean. The slopes are beginner-friendly, well-maintained, not too crowded, and easy to access from Hakodate, with convenient rentals and helpful staff.
We had a great day at the slopes. The meeting point is easy to find. The guide; Pan, was really helpful. He taught us tips and how to wear the snowboard boots. All in all the experience was smooth and fun.
The Ski coach and guide is very accomodating and friendly. He always make sure all of us are ok and enjoying ourselves in the facility. even though the ski resort is very far, the trip is enjoyable having an expect guide and coach
It was a great trip heading to the ski resort. we had so much fun skiing and snowboarding. it was also snowing heavily throughout. our guide was helpful and we joined the ski lesson.
Best experience since I am just out for an adventure. Pick up is easy to locate and the guide is very helpful. i had so much fun and it really made my trip to Japan very unforgettable.
Lovely experience thanks to Poey and Tracy🤍 Poey, our tour guide, was clear & engaging, especially during the bus ride commentary. I liked how she switched between Eng, Mandarin, & Canto to make sure everyone felt included. She was also responsible & proactive. When I misplaced my card @ the ski resort, she helped liaise with Tracy, which I truly appreciated. Tracy, my ski instructor, was equally outstanding. He was patient, calm, & encouraging, which made a big difference, especially for beginners in the group. Teaching skiing is already challenging, & doing it while communicating in 3 languages as well is no small feat. Tracy handled it with professionalism and kindness, making sure everyone understood and felt safe throughout the lesson. Both Poey and Tracy went above and beyond in their roles. Their dedication, multilingual skills, and genuine care made this trip smooth, enjoyable, and memorable. Highly recommend them to anyone visiting because you’ll be in very good hands 🥰
it was fun. the tourwas no hassle. But please to the people who join a group tour respect everyones time. 1 group was late for 30mins and they didnt feel sorry about it and just hear excuse. We all want to enjoy but dont be the reason for delay. Hope that group read.
I booked for Package A which includes a 1-hour basics tutorial since I am new to skiing. The instructor (Tracy?) spoke English and Mandarin and explained everything we need to know and provided extra tips (includes 2 popular music icons -- it's for you to find out)!
It was an unforgettable experience, especially since it was my very first time enjoying the snow! The atmosphere was amazing, and it’s truly the perfect destination for ski enthusiasts and snow lovers alike.
