What to expect
Cirque du Soleil’s Auana, its inaugural resident show in Hawai‘i, debuted on December 17, 2024, at the OUTRIGGER Waikīkī Beachcomber Hotel. The production weaves Hawaiian mo‘olelo (stories) into eight visually rich chapters, featuring acrobatics, hula, aerial acts, and live music. Highlights include portrayals of Polynesian migration, the legend of Hina through aerial hoop performance, and the myth of Māmala depicted via water-based acrobatics. Directed by Neil Dorward, with contributions from cultural experts like Dr. Aaron J. Salā and Kumu Hula Hiwa Vaughan, the show emphasizes authenticity and respect for Hawaiian culture. Performances run Wednesday through Sunday at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. in a custom-designed 784-seat theater.

This show is quite new, having officially premiered in mid-December of last year. The theater space isn't large, but the performance is absolutely amazing! The stunts are spectacular, and the interludes by the emcee are consistently hilarious and side-splitting. The integration of Hawaiian elements into the show's content is truly unique, setting it apart from other Cirque du Soleil productions. It's simply awesome! 👍🏽
I had a lot of fun. There were thrilling acrobatics, comedy that everyone can enjoy, and the healing music of Hawaii. If you go to Hawaii, I highly recommend seeing it. I recommend going to the theater a little early to enjoy the atmosphere.
I went with my 9-year-old child. The time flew by from beginning to end. Rather than Cirque du Soleil, the show felt more like enjoying a traditional Hawaiian show with the performers while drinking and having a good time.
This is different from the Cirque du Soleil shows in Japan. It wasn't just watching, but a fun show that involved the audience as well.

The show itself was wonderful and very enjoyable, really capturing the world of Hawaii. However, a group of five Asians (I think?) in front of me, next to me, and diagonally in front of me were filming videos on their phones, and the light was so bright. I was irritated by their lack of manners, and it ruined the show for me. The staff only lightly warned them once and then did nothing else. I'm not sure if I'm being narrow-minded or if it's okay because this is America, but I was very disappointed by that.
