Things to Know About China eSIMs
1. How does eSIM China work?
China eSIM works by digitally adding a mobile plan to your device. Simply purchase a prepaid China eSIM, install it through the Klook app or a QR code, and get connected as soon as you arrive. Hotspot and tethering are supported and you can easily add additional data linked to your main eSIM if you run out of data.
2. Is eSIM worth it for China?
Definitely! An eSIM is the easiest way to stay connected while traveling in China — no need to swap physical SIM cards. With Klook’s China eSIM, avoid expensive roaming fees while enjoying fast and reliable coverage across Beijing and beyond from China Unicom for a seamless travel experience.
3. Can you keep your primary SIM number with a China eSIM?
Yes. Thanks to the dual SIM functionality of an eSIM, you can keep your local phone number. Your local SIM card stays in your phone, and you add the eSIM China plan for internet access. This lets you enjoy data in China without having to swap out your physical SIM card.

This eSIM was a good choice since using an eSIM is highly recommended when traveling to China. There were just a few areas where the signal was weak or unavailable. Overall, it worked well. Activation was easy and hassle-free.

It’s worth buying an eSIM. Just make sure to install and activate it before going to China so you’ll have data right away. Some eSIM QR codes or apps may not load once you’re already in China due to restrictions, so it’s best to set it up before arrival

Just used a 5G eSIM on our trip to China and it worked flawlessly 🙌 One of the biggest highlights was being able to access apps that are usually restricted — Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and Google Maps all worked smoothly without needing any extra setup. The connection was fast, stable, and reliable whether we were navigating the city, messaging friends, or posting updates. No need to worry about VPNs or complicated configurations — everything just worked right away. If you’re traveling to China and want hassle-free internet with full access to your usual apps, a 5G eSIM is definitely worth it 👍

This eSiM is so convenient to use. Activation is just thru the klook app. Just make sure you are connected to wifi at the airport to activate it or activate before flying to your destination. The internet data speed is good. Didnt have trouble connecting to social media.. No VPN required. Recommended. Will buy again.

This data eSIM card worked very well throughout my visit to Xi An, including day trips made to Luoyang and Mount Hua (Huashan). It's a HK-based data sim and there's no issue with accessing Google, WhatsApp, Telegram, Spotify etc. Connection is occasionally laggy or spotty - perhaps China Mobile would be a better telco provider (i believe this eSIM was tied to China Mobile previously before it switched to China Unicom). There's no phone number attached, so do ask the hotel receptionist to provide their local number in order to use Meituan. Not necessary for Didi and most other things as they can be accessed via WeChat or Alipay's mini apps (WeChat & Alipay can be set up in SG with our local numbers).

Relatively good & steady internet connection throughout our brief 5d4n trip to GZ & Zhuhai. The biggest plus point is its pricing is much affordable than the roaming package provided by the home country service provider.
